Background story: When Lucy was born she was loved by both of her parents until she reached the age of 10. This is when her father started to abuse her and she couldn't do anything about it because her father told her he would hurt them too if she said anything. Her mother never knew what was going on as Lucy had always been clumsy and adventurous.
Lucy told no one so she could protect them from her father and then she meet Kyoya on the first day of middle school. He noticed that something was wrong with her (Not in a bad way) but as the days of middle school went on Kyoya, Tamaki, and Lucy became the best of friends. Later on, towards the second half of middle school, Kyoya asked Lucy out and she said 'yes'.
Lucy was so happy to have a boyfriend but she didn't tell Kyoya about what her father was doing to her. But Kyoya would notice that almost every day Lucy would come in with new bruises on her, so he asked her about it and she broke into tears.
Lucy told him because Kyoya was her boyfriend and she knew he would still love her even after the story she told. Kyoya was mad at her father and wanted Lucy's father in prison but Lucy told him 'no' because she didn't want him hurt. He listened and left it alone but was upset that she didn't want help to stop it.
At the end of middle school and the beginning of summer was when Lucy's mom was murdered and it took a toll on Lucy's family, Tamaki, and Kyoya. That was the first time since the age of 10 that her father treated her nicely for about a week and a half before everything went back to normal.
A week after Lucy's mom died something happened to make Lucy hate Kyoya so they broke up. Kyoya was left heartbroken but he still loved her even though he had to lie to her about what really happened that night. That was the last day Kyoya and Lucy talked with one another but that was also the night Kyoya told Tamaki what happened.
Although Lucy stopped talking to Kyoya, she and Tamaki kept in contact with one another for a different reason.
