The second Peridot climbed off of the smelly, yellow bus, she realized she had forgotten her workbook at school.
The blonde girl groaned loudly. "Why me!?" Peridot knew she would have to walk back to school and get the stupid book. She would not, could not lose to Pea, especially at something she exceled at, like completing her homework. She could just see her sister's smug little face now, nose pointed up in the air like it was trying to fly off of her face and launch itself into outer space. "Mom always knew you were the incompetent one," she would say. Peridot bristled just thinking about it. She sighed heavily and turned back towards the direction of Beach City Elementary. It wasn't a long walk, but it would seem like it on account of the pouring rain.
*le time skip*
By the time Peridot reached school, her rain boots had completely filled up with water. She dragged her feet as fast as she could over to a dry spot where the rain cascaded over the ledge of the administration building roof. Peridot grumbled as she pulled off her boots and dumped the water out. She shoved them back on and ran through the rain once again to get to her classroom, mentally cursing Beach City for not building an indoor elementary school. The small girl sighed in relief when she saw that the door was propped open, emitting a cozy yellow light that shined through the gloominess. Peridot burst through the door. "Miss--!"
"Forgetting something?" The woman asked, holding up Peridot's workbook. "Yes!" She said, stumbling over to her teacher. "Wow, thanks," she grabbed the book and stashed it in her raincoat. The small girl made her way back to the door and stepped out of the warm classroom and into the rain. Peridot walked this time, feeling a lot calmer now that she had her book. She could do her homework now. Take that, Pea, she thought smugly. As Peridot walked past the playground, she noted how abandoned it looked. She felt like she was trapped in a silent horror movie. Everything looked like it was in black and white, except...something caught Peridot's eye as she scanned the school yard, but her glasses were so fogged up from the rain, it looked like nothing more a splotch of blue. Still, she felt compelled to go to it. The splotch felt...important, like it was some kind of metaphor. Ugh. The freckle faced girl cringed at her own thoughts as she headed towards it. I've been spending way to much time with Steven. As Peridot got closer, she started to realize what she was looking at. Blue hair, periwinkle dress, sitting on that old swing set. Peridot stopped in her tracks. She took off her glasses and wiped them on the inside of her coat before placing them back on her face. Yup. It was that girl that everybody made fun of. She didn't know her real name, just the one everybody called her: Freak girl. The blue haired girl was facing away from her, soaking wet and shaking violently. Peridot frowned as she realized the girl was crying. The short girl stayed put, weighing her options. She could ask this girl if she was okay, or she could go home and be warm and do her homework. Peridot inwardly groaned. She already knew she was gonna end up doing the first one. It was a scientifically proven fact that everybody had a conscience, after all. So she slowly walked up to the crying girl. "A-are you okay?" The girl flinched hard, startling Peridot. She turned around, and the smaller girl stood, slightly dumbstruck. She'd never seen the blue haired girl up close before. Judging by the way people talked about her, Peridot had expecting someone hideous, with a snaggle tooth or warts, like an evil witch. But this girl was far from that. In fact, she looked like the type of person society usually praised: Pretty face, tanned, long legs, skinny frame, and eyes so blue it looked like the ocean itself had been poured into them. Peridot's cheeks burned as she realized she had been staring. "Uh...here." She held out her yellow umbrella. The sad looking girl hesitantly took it, hissing in pain as she did so. That's when Peridot noticed her cut up, bruised knuckles. "If you don't bandage that soon, it could get infected, which could lead to limb loss," Peridot stated. She reached into her backpack and pulled out a bottle of peroxide and some gauze. The girl raised an eyebrow, at the medical supplies. "I...fall a lot," Peridot explained sheepishly, which was true. She was probably the biggest klutz there was, so she carried around this stuff to save her a trip to the infirmary. Peridot twisted the cap open and motioned for the pretty girl to hold out her hand. As she bandaged the wound, she wondered what this girl had done to get it. Her knuckles were busted open, like she had punched a brick wall with all of her strength. After she had finished, Peridot tugged on a piece of her hair awkwardly. "...If you want, we could go to my house and call your parents from there. Its not that long of a walk, and I'm sure its better than staying out in the rain." The blue haired girl sniffled, looking at her bandaged hand, and then at Peridot. "Okay," she said.
