Travis and I go back to his house, through the trails and the gravel roads. You know maybe he likes me, too. He was really flirting with me. I’ll just see what happens. Fifteen minutes later we are pulling into his driveway. When we get there we stop and shut off our motors and go inside his house.
“What are you hungry for?” Travis asked.
“Well is your mom going to make supper or are we fending for ourselves?” I asked back.
“I think we are fending for ourselves. I have an idea how about we cool off first then just bring food down?” he says wondering.
“Sure! Lets go!” I yell running out the deck door back into the 90 degree weather, sweating right as you go outside, “This isn’t school you can run now and try to beat me now and try to beat me,” I say looking back at him with a huge smile and laugh.
“You know you will probably trip down the 101 steps.”
“No I won’t, I’m used to it,” right when I see them I STOP they are nothing like mine, no railing, not even real stairs they are wooden blocks dug into the ground a foot apart. “Ok your right I am scared of that, and not used to it.”
“Told yeah,” he says with an even bigger smile on his face, racing past me.
I go slow at first then speed up, trailing right behind him. When we get down to the dock, “you won,” he smiles holding the I told you so in his head. He leads us to the edge of the dock, and we don’t jump in right away.
He grabs both my hands facing me and says, “do you trust me, if you do close your eyes? Oh yeah you should take your tennis shoes off too,” taking his tennis shoes off too. I take them off, I am standing there looking into his chocolate colored eyes, and I slowly settle down to trust him closing them.
“Ok, good you trust me, I was a little worried, when I tell you to jump, jump if you don’t you’ll do a nasty side flop and that will really hurt. Ok.”
I answer by nodding my head; as he leads me to the edge little by little, I finally feel the edge, wondering when he is going to yell JUMP! When I am falling...
“JUMP!”
...Once he says that I push off and jump in the refreshing cold water. When our heads pop up we are still holding hands, both of us look down at them and smile. Travis and I go to the edge of the dock and walk up to where we can go up onto there. While we are walking our clothes are soaking and sticking to us. “You know one thing I can’t stand is my clothes sticking to me,” I say while loosening my shirt from clinging to me.
“I know but I can do this,” he says while pulling off his soaking wet shirt, showing his tanned abs.
Glancing at his body I say, “lucky. Do you want to jump in again?”
“Yes can I jump over you?” saying with an excited face.
“NO! You’ll hit me!”
“No I won’t, come on please, you trust me remember, pleeaassee Sophie,” he begs with a begging face on and his brown eyes like a puppies.
“Fine,” I jump in and I am scared, I turn to face him, “How far away? And you better not hit me?”
“I won’t, keep going back, ok, stop,” putting up his hand like a stop sign.
I am looking at him thinking please don’t hit me, please don’t hit me. He jumps and he doesn’t hit me, I am so relieved I let out a sigh.
“I almost hit you, I was so scared!” he says grabbing my hands holding them in his.
“I know I was so afraid you were going to,” my eyes dilate showing the fear.
We jump in a couple more times, each time holding hands not letting go until we hit the water. Ten minutes later we are laying on the dock on our backs, Travis on the right and me on the left with our feet at the end of the dock, looking up at the sun with our eyes closed.
