The Great Gig in the Sky -Pink Floyd
H: Adeline Rose, where are you?
H: Adeline Rose.
H: I hope your phone is either dead or it isn't on your person
H: It isn't nice to ignore daddy.
I chose to disregard the messages and continue my bike ride to the local library. Though I hated reading, I had to find the book Harry had, even if that meant discovering something I didn't want to see.
It was beginning to get chilly, now september, and the wind against my pale legs didn't help on the forefront of the situation. There wasn't a chance in hell I'd listen to whatever Harry told me to do rather than my own instinct. Yes, there was a certain level of trust I imposed on him, from where I have no idea.
It wasn't a long ride to the library where an old gray Honda sat in the front parking lot. I didn't have much time. From going out with my mother to Harry's impatient spirit, there was little room for error in my exploration.
I soon realized I had forgotten my bike chain at home, forcing me to leave my bike in the back of the building behind the bushes just in case someone was interested in a pink bike with a white wicker basket.
The solemn library stood lonesome in a tucked away landing. Its brown cinderblocks matched the tone of the sidewalk leading up to it while the poorly landscaped bushes ran along the front side of entrance.
Upon entering, the smell of old books invaded my senses while the vast space of untouched literature lay quietly on the shelves. Sometimes I felt terribly guilty for not picking up a book and giving it my all; As if the books had feelings themselves.
It was silent, more or less empty except for a middle aged woman scanning books under a red florescent light. The small beep each made was interrupted when the sound of the door startled her. She smiled slightly.
"You lost, honey?" She questioned, her orange frizzy locks poking out from her low ponytail.
I stammered for a quick second. "U-Um, no ma'am. Just looking for a book is all."
"Researching something?" She scanned another book and put it on the gray rolling cart.
"Sort of."
My head spun around the gray walls of the library to see the different sections labeled with hovering signs from the ceiling. Non-fiction, Classic Literature, American Literature, YA Novels, Children's Books.
"I'm looking for a book- something went over the cuckoo's nest?" I questioned quickly, looking expectantly at the woman. She thought for a moment before her eyes widened with glee as if she finally resolved what book I was referring to.
"You mean One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest?"
"Yes." I smiled lightly.
"This way." The lady set her book down, motioning me to follow in her steps to the back of the library into a section of tattered books. "Here we are." Her painted nails scanned the shelf until they effortlessly picked one from the shelf and handed it to me.
