Chapter 4: Unplanned Date
"What are you doing? I'm going to be late! "
"So? Always be the one who comes late on the first date. Stop moving around like that! You are going to ruin your make-up. "
"I said I don't need all that. I'm just going to a library! You know this place where all types of books are kept? Well I’m going there to learn"
I said each word slowly as if I was talking to a child. As soon as we arrived at my place, Jenni ushered me to the bathroom and she was picked my outfit herself. If only Cheryl was here, she could have helped me. But she works as a nurse and today was her night shift at the hospital.
"I know what it is. I'm not dumb." she replied with a 'duh' sound. "I just don't frequent this place very... often.”
"I think the last time you went was when the English teacher ordered you to borrow a book from a library and we were at the Elementary School then."
She smiled sheepishly and just shrugged it off.
"Ladies!" shouted Jake from his room.
"Great, here comes my idiot of a cousin. Keep your head down if you don't want to be embarrassed."
Jenni's face became confused. I barely had enough time to warn her again that Jake barged into my room half naked. Jenni's eyes flowed over his muscled body and she instantly turned crimson red.
"Stop being melodramatic! If you're searching for the attention of a male...you got one here! “He motioned to his body with pride. To me I was familiar with this sight. The first time I saw him practically naked was when I first moved here. After the death of my parents, whom I barely knew, I lived at an orphanage. When Michaelo and Cheryl Steward knew where I was, they didn't hesitate into taking me under their care and I'm very grateful for that.
Looking at the egocentric monkey in front of me made me want to run away from here but then I remembered those who love me. I will always have to put up with him.
"Get the f*ck out of my room! “ I turned from my vanity and yelled at him.
"Calm down! I just wanted to see if there was any cat fights here... You know I love that!" He defended himself with a sly grin. "You could have at least told me off nicely." He pouted.
"Could you move your sorry ass out of my room, please?" I asked, this time, with the most fake charming smile I could confect.
"Your loss." He sighed and finally moved out of my room. Jenni was giggling silently. I couldn't blame her. When Jake and I are together we conducted ourselves like two kids of 5-years old.
"I should have brought popcorns. Anyway you are ready girl! Go rock this date!"
"It's not a date!"
"You wish..."
Finally I succeeded to escape from Jenni's hands. I borrowed her car since i haven't got another one after an accident. It was so badly damaged that nothing could have been done to it. I was wearing a light blue sweater, some black, stripped leggings and my favourite combat boots. My hair was tied into a low ponytail. With much begging I convinced Jennifer that I didn't need to wear too much make-up and she settled down with only some mascara and eye-liner. I much preferred to be simple.
We planned to meet at four but it was already four thirty and I hoped he was still here. I sighed in relief when I noticed the blue shiny Lamborghini parked across the road. I quickly found a parking as less and less people is going to the library nowadays. It was really windy and I hugged myself tightly, shivering when a cold breeze swept around me. I wished I brought a jacket with me. The library was old and had an antique look. Since small I loved coming here. I got some time alone being surrounded by books. It's here that I learnt most things about this town. The strange happenings and mysteries.
