You wake up in what seems like seconds, with Bones above you. You forget where you are, but then you remember about your power. Or whatever the crap it was. You look up at Bones, expecting to hear an answer.
He sighs. "Well, Jay. Welcome back. How are you feeling?"
"Good..." You say a little bit skeptical. He hasn't told you anything yet.
"Good. Very good. Can you remember anything about me or anybody else?"
You roll your eyes and laugh. "I know that you're my overprotective dad that won't let me be in the same room as Pavel Chekov. I also know that we're on the Starship Enterprise, my best friends are Chekov and Sulu...Dad it's not like I've forgotten anything!"
"Then you know why we're here, right?" He says.
"Of course. I think I might have some sort of super power. Do I?"
He pauses. "Well, I'm no brain specialist, but yes, there is something a bit different about you and how your sense of speed works and stuff like that. So I guess you could call it a super power."
You punched the air in triumph. "I can't wait to tell my friends! This is so awesome! I was totally born with a super power!"
"That's the thing. You were created with it. Like, you were genetically modified. People don't just come out with super powers. I'm going to try and look for some sort of file, but I think," He stops for a few seconds, "You were an experiment."
You stop feeling so happy. An experiment? But that couldn't be right.
Could it?
You get up from your bed and start to walk towards the door. Bones stops you by holding onto your arm. "Look, Jay. I know it's a lot to take in. Do you want to take the day off? Maybe go hang out with...Pavel?" He cringes as he says Chekov's name,"I know he has the day off today. Jim told me."
You, still a little struck from the idea that you were an experiment, nod and walk out to your interface to message Chekov. You message him to meet in his quarters, he says yes, and you say that you'll be there soon.
As you walk down the hallway, you feel pushed on, and slightly depressed. Your whole life, your whole being, had just been an experiment. It pains you to think about it, but if you really are, you may have been created in a tube. Or something. You try to shake the thought out of your head and think about happier things.
You go up to Chekov's door and knock. He opens it up, and he's obviously been up to something, because he's smiling like crazy. "Hey, Jay, come right on in," He gestures to the inside of his room. You smile back despite what has happened, and walk in. "So I had an idea," He says as he closes the door. "Since we don't know much about you, we don't know your birzday. So...I was zinking...what if we made your birzday today!"
He turns on the lights and there are a bunch of streamers hanging from the ceiling, balloons tied to everything imaginable, presents by the TV, and -wait for it- Sulu, dressed up in a party hat. You are surprised at first, but then start to laugh a bunch. Pavel looks as if he just won the noble peace prize he is so happy. Sulu is laughing too, then comes over to you. He gives you a big brother kind of hug. Then when he lets you go, Pavel rushes over and gives you another big hug. But you think that his is for different reasons.
You sigh happily. "Guys...I don't know what to say! This is great!"
"You've only seen what we did to spice up the room. We got most of the bridge crew to give you a present!" Sulu says while Pavel is still attached to you. You are astounded at their effort, and you have completely forgotten about what had just happened in Medbay.
Pavel finally lets go of you and leads you over to the presents. There were about 10 or 11 presents, and they were mostly small, but one was very big. You look to Sulu and then to Pavel. "Am I allowed to open them up?"
"Of course you are! It is your birthday," Sulu says.
You rush over to the presents happily, completely forgetting that your very existence could have been a scientific experiment.
