Chapter 20

Zaira's P.O.V

It was an unbearable pain that coursed through my body, like it was part of my cells. My body felt on fire, my heart clenching every time I thought about this about how he had betrayed me how he had been the cause of it all. He wasn't the guy that would play with his son like it was the most important thing to do or spent a whole night with me. The guy who made my heart flutter and made me smile even when I thought it was impossible. It can't be him, how can it be him all along. A single tear rolled down my cheek as the thoughts continued to course through my mind, thoughts that made it worse but somehow better. I didn't care if I looked pathetic or if we haven't even mated yet a mate bond grows with every moment together and it still hurts to know. My vision was blurry and my mind foggy, my body ached from this position and mouth felt dry. I knew they could see me breaking down over here and it broke me knowing he probably finds joy in this. My wolf wad no where, probably somewhere deep in my mins whimpering for our betrayed mate. What else can she do.

"Zai, you there"

Zack's voice filled my mind, he sounded panicked and angry, maybe even stressed.

"Thank goodness. I've been trying to get to you for almost 3 days now, but you never answered."

"Zack you need to get me out of here. "

"I will try my best"

"Thank you. Any news yet" I heard him sigh, probably running a hand through his hair out of frustration. My stomach growled loudly and my throat felt like sandpaper.

" They tried attacking last night again, but it was a false attack. They took another pack member"

"Who" there was a certain edge in his voice that caused me to ask this. A question I regretted as soon as I found out.

"Last night Grace and I were sitting at the tv, she told me that she was pregnant and then they struck immediately I ran to help and when I got back she was gone. Sam told me they ran in with a witch at their side, Luke was at the frontlines they froze everyone and he took her right under my nose" A sob coursed through my mind and I knew it was him, my heart ached for my best friend but somehow I didn't cry and nor did I even feel bad all I could think about was Luke. It made me feel selfish and pathetic, selfish for not caring that much and pathetic for only staying here and doing nothing. My heart ached for my family, the comfort my dad can bring with his hugs and my mom with her smile. Zack with his witty remarks and Grace with her soft and tender words, Sam with her rebellious schemes and Drake's face when he's embarrassed. Chase's small little hands cupped in mine and his laughter that makes the whole world shine brighter.

I sighed loudly and then I heard it, the box started creaking open, light shone through the small crack forming at the top burning my eyes in the process. "Hallo my love, time to eat"his voice sent shivers down my spine, the venom clear as daylight. His face held a satisfied smirk, a smirk so vicious and ruthless the smirk of a killer. I couldn't  believe this was who he really was, what he really was and it made me sick just thinking about it.

"Oh have you met Andy, hasn't he grown up a lot since we last saw him" his smirk grew as my awestruck face took in the man stood beside him, a man I used to think was only a small little boy that could barely walk. My heart clenched at the thought and I had to bite my lip to choke back a sob ready to escape. This cannot be happening, this isn't real it's all fake it's a silly little dream and soon I'll wake up and everything will be back to normal, no twin brother or mermaids or even mate's betraying me. I knew that was only a way to make myself feep better, a way of making myself feel secure and safe when I knew for a fact I wasn't.

"Come on, let's go you need a shower and then it's time to eat"he pulled me up with one hand, my body fragile and weak beneath hid grip. I felt limp and was unable to walk, causing me to be carried around by the man I know despise the most yet still love dearly.
