Eventually, the harsh knock on the cell door came.
They were granted their last meals at least.
Phil had pancakes. Of course he would.
Dan remembered the days when they'd film themselves making pancakes, of course using the Delia Smith recipe.
Dan wondered how many of their fans had been caught.
He didn't want to think about it. He felt sorry for them, really. He'd spent so many hours making videos for them to watch, replying to comments, making friends, inventing a little corner on the Internet to share their mistakes, and be themselves.
He didn't want to think about how many of them were dead.
He felt bad, he didn't know their names, yet they all knew his.
He supposed, most of them were dead anyway.
He wondered what life would be like if he hadn't messaged Phil that fateful day. Probably not being hunted by the law, he presumed.
He wouldn't have it any other way though.Dan himself didn't ask for anything, just a glass of water.
It was his fault Phil was going to die. He asked him the both the best and worst question you could possibly ask, depending on who you were.
If it wasn't for him, they wouldn't be here.
He didn't deserve comfort for what he had done.
And so, he sat in silence once more, waiting to be lead outside for the final time.
