Cadence swallowed allowing her throat a moment to work again. "You know, I remember following you around. I remember how much I annoyed you. I haven't changed much.." Cadence admitted.
Connor laughed, "I wasn't really annoyed by you. I actually enjoyed your company and looked forward to your visits."
Cadence opened and closed her mouth. She hadn't expected that. Actually, she really didn't know what she expected. "R-Really?" Cadence stuttered, her face instantly flaming.
Connor chuckled, finding her stutter AMD nervous state cute. He couldn't ignore the urge he had to tease her any longer. Leaning forward his mouth closed over the shell of her ear and he nipped lightly. Connor mumbled incoherently around her ear.
Cadence squeaked in surprise, which turned into a small sigh. Her body relaxed fully and she almost protested when he moved away.
"So why do you say Cadence? Do you recognize me as your mate?" Connor knew he wasn't being fair, he also knew he was using her attraction for him against her, but Connor couldn't bring himself to feel the slightest bit guilty. He wanted Cadence and he knew she felt the same.
"You're not being fair." Cadence complained, a light teasing in her voice. She was glad that he couldn't see her face because she was sure she looked like a tomato right now.
"And, you're avoiding my question. Why?" Connor tried to sound patient, but he knew that was nearly impossible at the moment. He knew she had been avoiding him since the hospital. He figured it was simply because she had to think and he had left her alone. Now he wanted to know.
"What of your pack Connor? They believe I am a rogue and even when the find out that I'm not, I don't believe it would make much difference." Cadence sighed. She had worried about a number of things, but his pack had been near the top.
Connor tightened his arms around her, "is that what's holding you back? Cadence regardless, I am choosing you. I know that the pack will accept you and come to love you. Pack member or rogue, you are kind, gentle, compassionate and the bravest person I know." Connor kissed her wet cheek, feeling bad that her last memory of his pack had hurt her. He wouldn't allow that to happen again.
"I've loved you since I was a little girl. I never stopped." Even though Cadence was being emotional, she continued. "I had this whole idea in my head, so sure that one day you and I would be mates. After we heard of your father's death, I cried. I cried for the loss of my father's friend and I cried for you. I knew how it felt to lose a parent and I wanted so badly to be there for you, but my father said it was too dangerous to travel at the time. After the months went on, we didn't visit again. The fantasy of you and I faded. I was sure that it was too late, that you had already found a mate." Cadence wiggled out of Connor's arms and turned to face him. His face was shadowed slightly from the darkness surrounding them, but Cadence could read his every emotion. "I love you Connor.."
Connor felt his chest pinch at the mention of his father and the thought of Cadence crying for him. No one had shown that kind of loyalty to him before. "Cadence.." Connor tangled his fingers on her hair and brought her forward, crashing his lips to hers.
The kiss was gentle, full of promises that Cadence didn't understand, but couldn't seem to think about as his scent and taste took over her senses. When the kiss ended, Cadence rested her forehead against Connor's. She felt as if she were in a dream and was afraid to open her eyes. What if this wasn't real?
"Cadence, look at me," Connor said gently. Smiling slightly when she only tightened her eyes closed and shook her head. "Why? I want you to look at me when I tell you how much I love you."
Cadence eyes snapped open and she nearly closed them again when she saw the amusement shining in Connor's eyes. "I love you, Cadence Monroe. I may have only admitted it tonight, but I believe I have loved you since you and I were little. I never found another who could compare to you and I never will. You are mine as I am yours. In body, mind, heart, and soul. Forever. I recognize you as my soul mate.."
His declaration has Cadence in tears. Never had she felt such love. "I recognize you and accept you as my soul mate."
As soon as the words were said, they both could feel their attraction, their love for each other grow. The bond hand been made and would last forever, never to be broken.
"Finally." Cadence heard the familiar voice of her father and if it wasn't for Connor holding her she would have toppled down the stairs. "You see, I wondered how long it would be until you both accepted what was meant to be. Took longer than I believed, but can't rush love I suppose."
Cadence's mouth opened and her face heated. "Papa...."
John nodded. "A good match and one that Dane and I was right about." The mention of Connor's father's name had Connor turning to look at John. "Your father was the one who mentioned that sooner or later you wouldn't be able to run from Cadence. He said, that you complained about her enjoying you and how you wished she stop following you, but he had noticed the secret smiles when Cadence was near or when she grabbed onto your shirt." John shook his head. "You should both come inside. It will snow by morning."
Connor and Cadence stood in silence. Cadence knew that Connor was thinking about his father and reached for his hand, squeezing gently to let him know she was there for him.
Connor smiled softly to Cadence, happy to see the concerned look turn to one of happiness. "Come."
