I plowed through the darkness, snapping twigs, breaking branches, rustling trees. Anything it took to get away from Them. Then I felt a cold hand grab onto my arm. I heard Josie's screams. I struggled to break free from the man's grasp, but he held tight. Josie's pained face appeared in front of me, but I couldn't reach her.
No, this can't be happening. That's all over now. I'll open my eyes and this'll all be gone. I thought. My eyes fluttered open.
I was on the airplane, Josie shaking my shoulders, her bag packed and ready to go. Just a dream. There were just too many times when it wasn't.
"Come, on we have to get off! We're here!" Josie exclaimed brightly. I rubbed my sandy eyes and stood up groggily. The plane was empty.
"Okay, let's go," I said, picking up my bag and following Josie down the aisle. Apparently I had slept the whole time while Josie consumed two books. I could barely walk. "I need a coffee. Is there a Dunkin' Donuts around here somewhere?" I asked.
"Yup, there's one right there." Josie giggled. "I wonder if everyone here have those accents you see in movies. Hello, my name is Josie," She said in imitation of a british accent. I laughed and nudged her along.
"Do you want anything? They have donuts here," I suggested.
"You bet. Jelly filled please. And a glass of water with that." I realized we were standing at the counter. I really did need some coffee!
"And a small coffee with that please. Cream no sugar," I told the cashier, who punched in a few numbers into her machine.
"That will be 7.99," The cashier replied. I smiled and playfully bumped Josie, who was already grinning with excitement at the cashier's accent. I took out my wallet and handed the cashier some money. She handed me the bag and a coffee. But as we were walking away I could've sworn I heard her say: "Silly Americans."
I took a long sip of my coffee and instantly felt more energized. Time to take our plan into action. Which family would we use our brilliant charm on? I scanned the airport. Perfect. I pointed to a couple with a five year old across the room and raised my eyebrows at Josie. She nodded.
Get ready to be hit by a storm my lad. I thought to myself as we decided on the family we would reside with for the next year or so.
