BEHIND THOSE EYES

Chapter 6

"Class as you all know the party will take place in a couple of weeks from now and I am heading out of town, I won't be back till the final day so I want serious preparations to begin next week and I Want everyone to be a part of it. When I say everyone I mean the guys too." Miss Penelope their form mistress said earning a groan from the guys. "This isn't the first final year party so I want you to come up with a theme that's going to stand out. Nina since this party was your idea you, Kendra and Vanessa are going to be in charge..." Kendra was the class president.

Vanessa turned towards where Nina was seated and smiled sweetly at her, waving in the process. "Oh this is going to be fun." Vanessa said to herself already concocting something for Nina in her head. One look at her face told her girlfriends exactly what was going through her head and didn't need to ask. Just then the school bell was rung and everyone was curious as to why they were being summoned in the middle of classes.

"Well class you all have to leave now, See Kendra for your assignments and Good luck. Off you go." She drove them all out of her class. They were the last to arrive since their block was farthest from the assembly hall. They moved noisily to their reserved seats I n the front row and sat down. The whole room went silent as soon as the principal took to the podium.

"Hello to everyone, sorry for the interruption of your classes but I have an important announcement to make. Our dear school is being invited for the first time in a long time to take part in the ALL STATES SCIENCE COMPETITION." He was interrupted by the sudden murmuring among the students. He cleared his throat loudly to gain their attention and the hall was silent again. "So we will have our own quiz here and then select the best amongst us to represent the school. Anyone from any form willing to be a part of it is required to put down their names on the list that will be put on the notice board after this meeting before the end of the week .Mr. Tilbet our head of the science department and his colleagues will assess each of you then we'll have our quiz to select our champions. Thanks for your time everybody. That is all, go back to your class rooms and enjoy the rest of your lessons." The principal said and noise erupted from the hall as the students begun to file out of the hall slowly. Vanessa and her two friends rushed to catch up with Mr.Tilbet as he was leaving the hall through the Staff entrance on the left side of the stage.

"Mr. T we were wondering what the prizes of the competition are?" Shane asked him when they finally caught up with him.

"Thanks for reminding me girls." He said to them then called everyone back. "Sorry we left the big part out, I guess that was what all the murmuring was about." He chuckled. "The winners will earn a full scholarship to study in one of the three best Science Universities of their choosing and will also get a cash prize , the chance to meet the President and some world renowned Scientists at their annual Masterminds forum.And the winning school will receive a renovation of their entire science block."

"Sweet!" The three girls said dreamily from the door. Imagining they were standing on stage and receiving an award from the president himself already.

"Thank you girls, what would I do without you three." Mr. Tilbert said breaking them from their reverie and giving each one a kiss on their cheeks.

"We told you you are getting older by the day." Vanessa chuckled.

"Don't tease girls. So which one amongst you do you think will win? Because I assume you three will be partaking in the competition right?" He asked them.

"We don't know which one will win but be assured we three, will bring the crown home." Caitlin replied.

"Guys I'm not sure I can do this. I mean this is THE ALL STATES SCIENCE COMPETITION." Vanessa suddenly said bringing her three companions to an abrupt halt, they starred at her in bewilderment.
