knock. Knock. Knock.
"I'm coming! Just wait a minute!" I yelled down the hall. People are so impatient these days.
I hopped off my bed and ran to my closet. I pulled some sweatpants on over my underwear and a long t-shirt over my sports bra. I ran my fingers through my hair and pulled it up into a ponytail and then walked down the hallway to the front door.
I looked through the peep hole and saw Four. What is he doing here? Shouldn't he be off doing something besides stalking my door?
I sighed as I unlocked the door and opened it. Four looked at me and I watched as his gaze went down my body, and then back up to my face.
I gave him a questioning look. His hand came up and scratched his neck. A nervous tick. I've been taught to recognize ticks like that. But why would he be nervous? It's just me.
"Um... well... I..." Four stammered, looking as if he was about to just run away and hide instead of talking to me. But Four never stammers. He's supposed to be cool and genius and always the picture of calm. But now I wonder what he hides behind his mask of calm.
"You want to come in?" I asked warily. I wasn't used to being around a stammering Four. Maybe this was a test of some sort.
Four nodded, and I opened the door wider to let him in.
As I closed the door I led him to the couch. I sat in the comfy chair across from him. But not before I kicked some empty chip bags underneath it. I didn't need him thinking I lived like a pig.
As soon as I was comfy I turned to him, curiosity in my eyes. Four scratched his neck again, and looked around my apartment.
"This is cozy." He finally said.
I nodded. "Yep. It's perfect for me. Now, why are you here this early in the day? We have the day off from work. I'd expect you to catch some extra Z's for something." I crossed my arms across my chest and narrowed my eyes at him. I didn't want to be too friendly with him. As he was still the one who was dejected at having a girl for a partner.
"Well, um... I came to ask you something."
"Well? Go ahead, I'm listening."
"Will you go out to dinner with me tonight?" Four blurted, and then he blushed a deep red. Four never blushed. Four never stammered. Four never let his eyes wander while looking at me, always keeping them on my eyes. I should have seen this coming.
"Oh. Well, I'm not doing anything so I guess I could. What time?"
If he wanted to go out with me, I was going to play hard to get tonight. This was going to be so much fun.
"Does 6:00 sound fine?"
I looked at the clock hanging above the television. "6:00 would be perfect."
Four nodded, relief flashing across his face. I had to resist smirking at him.
As soon as Four left, I called Christina.
~~
"I can't believe Four asked you out for dinner. He's never taken an interest in a girl before, and when I say never I mean it. I've known him for a long time." Christina said as we walked into my apartment. As soon as I had called her up, we had gone shopping all day and now we were about to get me ready for my date tonight.
"I know, me either. He was stammering and blushing. It was so funny watching him."
"Four blushing? Are you trying to pull my leg? That could never happen to Four."
"Nope. Telling the truth."
"Okay, I believe you. Even though it sounds outrageous. Okay, so lets get you dressed. Then I'll work on your hair and make up."
"Okay." I said, grabbing the bag that Christina held out for me. I went to my bedroom and opened the bag. Christina had picked out my dress for the night. She wouldn't let me see it earlier so this was my first time getting to look at it. I had told her I had wanted to play hard to get and she definitely picked out the right dress.
The dress was black. It had a low neck line, low enough that my breasts were peeking out. The dress stopped just below my butt. It had black jewels that played games with the light. It was backless. Christina had bought me black heels to go with it.
Once I had changed into everything I walked out to Christina. She looked up from a fashion magazine she had been reading and squealed.
"You look brilliant!" She exclaimed.
Christina sat me down in a chair in the bathroom and started on my hair. She did an elegant twist on top of my head. Then she started on my make up.
She used black eyeliner which really made my blue eyes stand out. They capture mine in the mirror. Claiming my attention. Christina put bright red lip stick on my lips and blush on my cheeks. Then she put gold hoops in my ears.
I looking in the mirror and smiled. I liked this look on me.
Then there was a knock on the door.
