Erik walked briskly towards his office after getting out of his car. He had forgotten to turn on his phone after the meeting and Emily was not picking up hers when he tried to call back. He barely crossed the front door when his head of security rushed towards him and informed him that Emily had left the building an hour ago. He tried to call her again but she didn’t answer the phone and his worry for her began to increase with each passing second.

“If you are worried about her, we can go to her house and check on her Sir.” Jared told him and the three of them, he, his driver and his security rushed back into his car to do just that. He was fuming with anger and finding Emily and giving her an earful of what a stupid person she was, was his priority.

He knew where Rebecca lived with her brother and gave the driver the instructions to take him there. Emily was their neighbor and finding the house won’t take much time. He fisted his palms and tried to tame his growing anger. The fool had no idea what she had just subjected him to.

What if her stalker found her and tried to hurt her? What if something happened to her, like falling down the stairs? What if she met with an accident on her way back? A lot of what ifs were emerging in his mind and each such thought was powerful enough to churn his insides. If the simple thought could unsettle him like this then what will he do if she really was in some sort of trouble???He thought with a frustrated sigh.

The car was barely turning into their street when Jared started shouting at the driver to stop the vehicle. Erik looked to where Jared was looking at and saw a couple of guys beating someone up. His next breath got caught in his throat when he saw the familiar dress and the slender body of his assistant, whom he had kissed in the afternoon being attacked. Both of them were near the two bastards, who didn’t even hear them approaching within seconds and dragged them both away from her.

Erik hit the one who was approaching Emily with a knife hard and saw him falling down. He started punching and kicking him with uncontrolled anger. He looked at Emily and a shiver went down his spine when he noticed that she hadn’t moved. He forgot about her tormentor and rushed to her side. Her beautiful face and body was covered with dirt and her lips were bleeding. The dress she wore to work that day was all dirty and torn. She looked like a beaten up doll and the sight tore at his heart.

It was his fault; he should have called her back when the meeting was over. He shouldn’t have switched off his phone, but he was helpless. After what happened with Emily that afternoon his mind was filled with her thoughts and it took all his willpower to concentrate on the meeting.

He took her carefully in his arms and started walking towards the car. Jared came rushing and opened the door for him and started yelling at the driver to take them to a nearby hospital as soon as possible. Erik was too numb to say anything after hearing her first words when he took her in his arms.

She was shivering and crying and begged him not to kill her. He vowed that after seeing to it that she was fine, he will find the bastards and will make them pay for what they did to his Emily. She fell unconscious even before they got into his car and that worried him. He put her on his lap and started talking to her like she was a child, trying to soothe her.

A few minutes later she started stirring and snuggled deeper into his chest. Relief washed through him when he realized that she was waking up.He took his handkerchief and carefully removed the dirt and blood from her face and lips.

The feeling of being secure and taken care of surrounded her and she smiled softly enjoying the feeling. Arms tightened around her when she tried to move. When she remembered what happened to her, fear began to take over the calmness of her mind and she stiffened suddenly. She heard Erik’s worried voice talking to her. She willed her too tired eyes to open and winced when she tried to move.
