There was no hesitation, not even a second to think of what was going on or who was in the room. Everything stood still, almost like a slow motion effect had been activated on the room.

Within that one second he pulls an arrow from his quiver, strings it in the bow, pulls back and aims the deadly point at my best friend, Alexia.

My vision is blurred from the pain in my leg but I know it's her. Her voice that I've heard a thousand times is unmistakable. Her face is shrouded under her green hood, but I catch a glimpse of a blond strand hanging down like a beacon of hope.

"Who are you?"he asks menacingly.

She says nothing just stands there frozen like a statue.

"Answer me!" He booms, his voice sounding irritated.

"Ally!" Her voice had concern in it.

An arrow flies across the room, so fast and so deadly. Alexia throws herself down and behind a desk. The arrow missing its target by mere inches.

"Hey psycho, you touch her and you'll be sorry!" Alexia calls out to him.

He laughs but only for a moment. "Oh, and you're going to rescue her huh?"

She doesn't answer, all I hear is a lighter flicking on. Seconds later a small object comes hurling through the air at him. I can't quite make out what it is but it sparked with light.

With quick reflexes he shoots the object with an arrow, it sticks to the ceiling above him.

"What the," he mutters.

Suddenly a loud pop fills my ears, and smoke stars to pour out of the little ball attached to the ceiling. A smoke bomb. Only a few seconds pass and the entire living room looks like a bad horror film with the thick smoke barely allowing me to see in front of me. Barely allowing him to see anything.

I sit on the floor, blood flooding the area around me. My leg throbbing with pain and there is nothing I can do. I know what I have to do but I can't do it. His attention is not on me anymore so it should be easy to get the jump on him. But all I do is sit.

"Ally, hold on we're gonna get out of here," her voice echos in my head. I can hear the fear in her voice though, the doubt.

She is afraid just like me, she knows that she may not make it out of this house alive, yet she still came.

She came for me.

I can't see it due to the smoke but another arrow whizzes through the air. I look around frantically for something, anything. Then I see it, the iron fire place poker. The boy moves around trying to get a better shot at his target. I hear Alexia crawling away behind solid objects to shield herself.

"Listen," he coughs from the smoke. "You aren't important to me, so if you leave now I won't come after you."

His voice is charming, part of what made me love him. He is using it to draw her out.

Her voice comes from behind the sofa. "I'm not leaving without Ally! I already called the cops so they are on their way."

I see his face contort and frown. A face I had never seen before, or didn't want to see.

"You little bit...!" His sentence is cut short. "Gah!" He yells.

The iron poker tearing through his flesh, his right calf. In my hands, I twist it with all my might, ripping into his muscle.

His hand reaches for an arrow but I yank and grind into his bone and he drops it to the floor.

I look into his eyes, the eyes that were once beautiful now bloodshot and mad with anger. "I'm going to kill both of you!" His yells fill the entire house.

Fighting through the pain he leans towards me, brings his fist up and smashes it into my face. The blow throws me back onto the floor, blood spurting from my lips, pain searing through my skull. He grits his teeth and yanks the poker out of his leg.

"I knew there was something I liked about you," he growled at me. "You got some fight in you."

He twirls the poker in his hand for a second and limps closer to me. "I was gonna keep you alive a little longer but you just pissed me off." He raises the poker over my chest.

Again the room goes quiet and still, again I feel as if slow motion had been turned on. I watch as the black iron poker dripping with his blood inches toward my chest, taking its sweet time to plunge through my heart.

That's when I notice it. The necklace that my dad had given me seven years ago, the ender pearl, was glowing. I didn't have time to think or even react, not knowing what was going on or why. But in the span of a fraction of a second, I was across the room lying on the floor next to Alexia. A purple dust shrouded me for a second then disappeared.

"Grahhhhh," he yelled at the sky. "How?!" The poker was sticking into the wood floor.

"I'd like to know that too," Alexia whispered as she through her arms around me.

"Maybe later," I joke.

I hear the scuffles and limping foot steps coming toward us. An arrow screams through the air above our heads.

"You didn't go very far this time did you!" Another arrow fly's by.

My attention is turned to Alexia who is now fumbling through her pockets. Trying frantically to find something, but what? Another smoke bomb?

"How about a trade?" He grunts. "You stay here with me and I let your little green hooded friend go unharmed."

We don't respond, my attention is fully on my friend who had now produced a small fire cracker looking object. She starts sparking the lighter I had heard earlier.

"What..?" I start to ask but as I do, I see his figure come around the corner staring strait at us, arrow aimed at my head.

"Too late, you can't run now." He whispers harshly.

Alexia cracks a small smile. "Who said anything about running?"

She quickly turns her face away.

BOOM

A loud explosion erupts under his feet and sends him flying backwards, he hits the wall behind him causing it to crumble as he topples over on the floor unconscious.

My ears ring, my vision is blurred, I can't move, could I be anymore pathetic? Alexia is lying beside me with her arms around my chest.

Smoke and dust float all around us and I can barely make out the shape of his body on the floor. My lungs burn as I try to inhale a life giving breath. I feel the pain from the arrow sticking out of my leg increasing, more blood oozing out.

Slowly Alexia starts to move. Grunting as she does it, she turns over on her back.

"You okay Ally?" She whispers.

I tap her shoulder lightly, "yeah...thank you."

She started to laugh but ended up choking on the smoke and dust that was still flowing everywhere.

Alexia let her head fall to the floor, her green hood covering the top half of her face. "You know... I love a good explosion."
