Detective Shai put his big arms around Alyson and picked her up with ease. Though the suspect was still in the house he needed to get the girls out before anything else. He looked over at Alexis and nodded with a stern face.

"Can you walk?" His voice was clear but hushed. Alexis pushed herself up and stood. "Okay, come on."

He lead the way through some pieces of wall that had collapsed due to the explosion from a few moments ago. Finally making it out of the house everyone seemed to take in a breath of fresh air. He hurried to the side walk and set the dark haired girl down softly. Tim looks at the arrow protruding from her thigh.

"I need you to watch her okay." He said to Alexis in a demanding tone. "The ambulance will be here soon."

More sirens could be heard out in the distance so it wouldn't be too much longer. He pulled out his gun and made his way back to that dark dingy house. Before crossing the threshold he looked back at the girls sitting still on the side walk. He felt as though he had been here before, only a few years ago. Not in this house exactly but in this situation, the same girls in danger, more death.

Just like that night seven years ago.

 Seven Years Earlier

Police officer Tim Shai had been on the force only a few months, a rookie. He was eager to prove himself, he wanted to help people. Carrying on the family tradition as his father and grandfather were both in law enforcement. Within the few months that he had been an officer he had gotten a little name for himself, not a very good one. Sheepy Shai, the other cops would call him. It might have been because during one of his first nights on the job he and his partner did a routine traffic stop. Everything had been going fine until his partner had asked the driver to exit the vehicle and the man refused, pulled a gun out and began shooting at them both.

Tim's partner was shot and killed by the gun man, Tim got away but only because he had run away. As soon as he had heard the gun shots his adrenaline had kicked in and by the time he had realized what was going on he was a block away hiding behind a tree. His breath shallow and tears running down his face. Fear had gotten the best of him. He heard a car speed off and then decided to return to the scene only to find his partner lying on the street already dead.

That was four months ago and an eye witness had come forth to tell what had happened. The other officers hated him for that. They looked at him with disgust every time he would walk in the room. Sheepy Shai was the coward of the precinct, the cop who left his partner to die. No one wanted to be his partner and he found himself on bike duty. Patrolling the city during the day pedaling his police bike.

Today had started like any other day waking up, showering, getting dressed, driving slowly to work. He walked passed the usual glares from people to his locker where he got changed. It was during the morning briefing that things changed. One of the other officers had called out sick today so they needed someone to work a double shift. No one else volunteered so he spoke up and took the shift. He wanted to prove himself, to earn back some sort of respect. Officer Tim Shai got to use a police car today.

The day dragged on as he drove, listening to music and the police scanner at the same time. Nothing interesting happening, he pulled a few people over, handed out a few tickets, nothing to write home about. The day melted into night and lights came on in the city, he gabbed a burger and parked in a lonely parking lot to eat. Looking at the clock on his dashboard the time read 2:13 AM only four more hours until this night shift was over, he crunched into his burger.

He had been about half way finished with the double bacon cheeseburger when the dispatch called over the radio. "Air craft down in the vicinity of south 4th street and Briggs street, all available units please assist." The voice echoed in Tim's ears.
