Blythe froze in terror upon the austere, yet familiar voice, dropping the leather reigns with trembling hands.

"TURN AROUND, I SAID!" His chilling voice bellowed as he pushed the gun at her right temple.

She exhaled with dismay as she slowly turned to face the soldier, preparing to execute her... Until her eyes bugged wide at the slate grey eyes that glimmered in the dimming lantern he held.

"JAMES!" Blythe squealed horrified as she shook his shoulders as he stood in this callous trans. "James please, it's me..." Blythe ripped off the hood of her cape instantly. "Please, I'm begging of you..." She sobbed as she pounded at his chest.

James gasped alert as he dropped his gun to the ground. "Blythe." He helped her up.

"What the hell are you thinking, dammit?" She questioned through her tears as he attempted to embrace her.

"My lady, please forgive me. What do you think you're doing here?"

"Rescuing the men y'all have taken as prisoners. Please, James you have got to help me..."

"Blythe... I can't, they've already been taken back to the fort."

"So?"

"It is not in my power to release them."

Blythe shook her head desperate for other alternatives. "Somebody has to release them, but please, they can't be sentenced."

Suddenly, a few pairs of footsteps intensified, locking in on them.

"Shhh, act along..." James remorsefully clenched her arm, as he displayed her to the dragoons.

"Captain Wilkins, is something the matter?" One had questioned with his accent of.

"Yes, just found this little wretch sneaking along here."

"Let me go!" Blythe added to her act. "Goddamn redcoats."

"Shall you need any assistance?"

"No Sir, I believe I can take her to the fort on my own, she'll make another addition to the other eighteen we've captured." James subtly loosened his grip, but not much to make it so obvious to the soldiers eyeing the masked azure eyes of the recaptured teen, facing the enemy once more.

"Very well, just do keep in mind, you are ordered to return once she is arrested, carry on."

"Yes Sir." James gulped with ease as he feigned to dragged the imprisoned teen across the many prying eyes gaping as he pulled her atop the horse on the opposite side of the tent. A sudden knot of apprehension overwhelmed her body as he mounted the sturdy stallion, and within a heartbeat, they were making their way away from the campsite and onward to the dreaded fort.

"James... You must take me to William." Blythe choked out reluctantly. "Please..."

"My lady, he has not been the same since you had left."

"Well damn, isn't that obvious." She muttered as her eyes wheeled, unable to erase the cruel image.

"Since you left, they've gone on this hunt for a new member of Benjamin's militia. They call them the Caper, 'tis rather odd, we hadn't seen a sign of that Caper during the battle today."

Blythe gasped upon word of her concealed identity.

"Did I say something upsetting?"

"No, it's just that Caper... James you can't breathe a damn word, swear it!"

"My lady, I solemnly swear, for you I will."

"I-I-I'm that Caper, by the name of Janis." Her eyes squinted shut as tears formed.

"I have known since I had left you at Benjamin's camp, and for you I'd never breathe a word to them. A fair lady as you shan't succumb to such torture, and I will not pardon that."

Blythe only grinned to herself, knowing James was risking his position and ranking for her, knowing she had to be grateful he hadn't turned her over to their thoughtless hands, making her into dead meat.

"I never really had the chance to thank you for everything, for the ball and that gorgeous dress, for taking me to Benjamin, for even assuring me all will be okay during my imprisonment, even now... I just want to say thank you for all you've done for me Captain Wilkins."

"My lady, there is no need to give me thanks, I would even gladly lay my life down for you if I could."

Blythe's cerulean eyes bugged out with astonishment as she could see the fort in the distance.

"James, please, I don't deserve that."

"For you my dear Blythe I will, come what may, whether you love William or myself, I will do so for you..." He trailed off with acceptance.

Her lips pursed with a sudden pang of confusion as they grew nearer and nearer to the fort, and instantly she snapped to reality; aghast by the triangle she was now caught in the middle of, torn between the resurfacing of the unscrupulous colonel she cared for wholeheartedly, and the loyal captain, who had obeyed her every request, her mind was beyond flummoxed at the plight that now entrenched itself at the center of the battlefield, with her being the target between the two indefatigable soldiers; driving their persistence.

James suddenly tugged at the reigns signaling the gelding to a halt as both dismounted, once again putting on the show of imprisonment for the others to see as Blythe eyed the height of the fort that sheltered her from the war for too long before subtly being flung inside to a pair of combat boots that stared her directly in the eyes, gazing up to see those familiar ultramarine eyes, glowering down at hers in the midst of the starless night...

Well, I even shocked myself with this... Guess some ideas just come to mind last minute. Anywho...
