It's impossible... I can't face him. Blythe thought to herself as she laid next to Judith who cried herself to sleep in Blythe's arms inconsolably. Yet, she remained wide awake atop Judith's cot, still processing the promise she accepted. What if that lightning hadn't struck me?
Judith slowly rolled her back towards Blythe as she continued to ponder deeply, She could still feel sleep weighing down slowly on her contemplative eyes dreading her treatment tomorrow come the early morn' as she battled her own war of sleep.
As the fading candlelights flickered about, she could only see her musket in the corner; noting his fear when she drew her arms in defense, the intense pain within his eyes, not even a unscrupulous soul could handle such a change from the opposite sex, especially being a captive lover...
Slowly, Blythe felt herself surrendering to her own war as she finally gave in to the slumber that fought at her eyes religiously until rest succeeded, leaving her with only one question elicited from her lips... Why?
A line of blood trickled down the side of her face as she stared into the mass of the many corpses that surrounded her, bloodied and wounded, the bullets making their marks; their iron running lower and lower by the second. Cold were their hands as they were still. Upon the many bodies that laid before her, she couldn't help but take into notice, the members of her militia. John Billings, Occam, Dan, Gabriel, even Benjamin... She quivered as she noticed her clothes tainted in blood, the sky rumbling with thunder as she piercingly screamed for mercy, before a shower of red drowned her in its unruly sea...
"Come dear, you needn't worry about me." Judith sifted through the flour with ease through her swollen eyelids. As Blythe stared up at her with remorse, following her stunning confession for her love of the man who tried to lure her into his libidinous lust.
"Judy, please. I shouldn't have been so cruel."
"My dear Blythe, what ever can you do at such a time as this? It hurts us all. Dear heavens, I saw you with that musket, and-" She broke off to pat her cheek with her handkerchief. "I saw the hurt in your eyes, I just couldn't help but notice. It's impossible to miss. He still loves you Blythe."
Blythe's eyes slowly glanced up, clenching shut with deep reverie and faint denial.
"There's no way Judy, I even fooled myself believing nobody's born a villain."
"No you haven't my dear-"
"I was such an idiot to think such a thing."
"Dear Blythe, do you have any idea what rubbish you're saying?"
"No. I just frankly don't give a damn. All I know is that I was such a ditz believing such a blatant lie." Blythe cried with low hope.
"Blythe, listen!" Judith voice surprisingly rose. "That man screamed your name aloud when he found you gone. I am only a maid but, I have seen a rather visible change in his demeanor. You're the only person he ever grew so close to since we've even arrived on this fort for this damned war that has us all in ruins. Despite his reversion to that Butcher he is, he has only loved you, and even when you had raised your weapon he still loved you. Have you any thought that just if he had not loved you, he would have had you hung by dawn?" Judith added with strong lecture.
Blythe gasped, stunned by the young maid's sudden snap, realizing Judith was right about... everything.
"Pardon me dear Blythe if I sounded rather insolent."
"No, your're fine. Forgive me instead. I was wrong by far, what the hell was I thinking."
"Do not thrash yourself for this. We all falter, I too have, he has, and there isn't a single soul who hasn't been through such."
"I guess you're right."
"Come dear, dawn is quickly arriving. We best be getting back to sifting out this flour before they wake."
"By all means, where is that Butcher?" The familiar sardonic voice of General O'Hara chanted out with subtle laughter as Blythe and Judith remained in the kitchen.
"Not this again." Blythe muttered.
Hopefully this time, I don't end up in a murky well. She thought to herself.
"Now's your chance." Judith spoke. "Go to him."
"Judy I can't, I'm a prisoner... again."
"Yes you can, pay no mind to that sarcastic jackass for a general. Trust in me dear Blythe, go."
"But what of the rest of the army."
"I can handle it, Blythe just please, go to William."
"Okay Judith." Blythe untied the dingy apron from her waist and turned to Judith one last time before shuffling her feet out of the small kitchen, feeling useless leaving Judith in the kitchen by herself. She dashed past the army and up the stairs.
"Well, I see that delinquent has been recaptured." O'Hara enunciated loud enough to echo through the entire fort.
Blythe carelessly brushed off his not-so-comical comment as she took in a breath, exhaling with a great stress that now weighed her shoulders down as she knocked upon the wooden door, awaiting a response. Yet, all fell silent as she gently pressed her ear to the door.
"William..." She softly elicited as the wooden surfaced stared her directly in her apprehensive expression.
She slowly turned at the knob, unlocked surprisingly as she opened to an empty room, bed sheets left in disarray and a blank surface of the cherry wood desk near the window. She crept in, reflecting over each moment spent with him as she plunked atop the bed, staring out at the lustrous light that lit up the entire room.
Just then, the sound of footsteps intensified, climbing up the steps, coming down the hall; approaching this very door.
"A little visitor, have we?" William's voice spoke at the entrance.
Blythe rotated her body to face him, stunned by his sudden arrival.
Hey guys,
Sorry for such a delay. Life sure happens, and as some of you may know, I'm trying to get into school (pleading with my mother to help me with financial aid is a job in itself)and searching for a better job than just fast-food (trust me, don't work in fast-food unless it's a last-resort sorta thing). Currently, I'm desperately hoping to go to a live showing of Jimmy Kimmel Live with my boyfriend and am hoping to see Metallica live, and for free (I'm hoping we go!). Aside from that load of shenanigans, I've also been progressing on my original work, which I feel I've built up the courage to show you guys at least a sneak peak after this fanfic is completed,to ease my skeptic thoughts. Putting aside all that, the holidays are approaching sooner and sooner, time sure does fly faster than we realize, in advance in case I don't update anytime soon, I want to wish you all an awesome, very merry Christmas to you all. Much love to you all.
Smiles,
Riva :) <3
