CHAPTER ELEVEN –

It had been eight days since the destruction of the first Supercarrier and arrival of the others, and somehow, McGrath and the few forces he had left were somehow still alive. Most of the evacuation of New Alexandria was done, thanks to Noble Six when he showed up, but there were still some civilians that were still popping out of nowhere, trying to stay alive. It was only recent when he overheard the two remaining Spartans he had that Kat, Noble Two, had been taken out by sniper fire and that Jorge, Noble Five, was still on the Corvette when it blew the Carrier up three days ago. As much as he didn't want to admit it, but this was beginning to feel like a fight that they weren't going to win, and if it was won, it would be at too heavy of a price. He looked to his left while on his rounds of patrol for the small base they made out of one of still standing buildings, he watched as "Leprechaun" made his rounds with him, "Why are you still up? You're not on shift."

"Can't sleep...not with what's going on all around us. All the screams, having to always look behind our backs while we're in 'Safety'. My mind and body doesn't know how to relax enough to sleep anymore."

"I see your point." Stating McGrath as they pass the body of an Elite with a crushed skull, along with three makeshift graves for their fallen brothers who weren't lucky in that particular assault. As they made their way through their patrol, they had to jump into cover to avoid being spot by a Phantom that was patrolling as well with a spotlight, searching for any survivors.

Beneath the Phantom were a couple of Ghosts that were doing a more thorough search on the ground that the Phantom found to be of interest at the moment. The Ghost drivers were both Elites, but they also were packing lightly either for once as on their back, they both carried either a Fuel rod Cannon or a Needle Rifle, along with their usual plasma rifle attached to their thigh.

McGrath was repositioning himself to not be spotted by the Phantom, but when he did, he accidently kicked around some debris and made just enough noise for one of the Ghosts to hear it and began to make his way over to where they were. When it saw the terrain was too edgy and loose for its Ghost to easily terrain over, it decided to get off the Ghost and began to slowly make its way to where it heard the noise come from. Once it got to the top of the pile of debris, it began to scan the area, looking for what might've made the noise, but when it didn't see what made it, it looked beneath itself, because it had heard reports in the past about the Humans hiding in the debris and used it to ambush them.

Leprechaun wasted no time and came up from behind it, and stabbed it in its throat multiple times to keep it from calling for assistance before pulling it beneath the debris to finish the job. HE gave McGrath a look under his helmet and gave a sigh, "No offense, Sir, but you're not that very good when it comes to not being heard."

"Noted." McGrath gave a soft laugh and looked over the pile when he saw that the second Ghost had turned around and was approaching the abandoned Ghost, "So, what are we going to do with that one without alerting the Phantom?"

Leprechaun looked around, looking for something that would help them out, but he couldn't find anything that keep them from being spotted. He looked back at McGrath and said, "Sir, I'm going to have to take back that previous statement." He gave the Officer a demented smile that he was unfortunately known for and pulled out his DMR, "Let's hope this works." He aimed down his scope and aimed at the Elites skull, but right before he pulled the trigger, he quickly shifted his sights on the exposed power coupling on the first Ghost and watched as the Ghost exploded and sent shrapnel all throughout the Elite, dropping it to the ground as two pieces of shrapnel impaled the Elite through its helmet and skull.
