Chapter 6

Summer

"I can't believe Albus invited me to attend the Quidditch World Cup with him and his family." You say beaming.
"It was very nice of him to do so." Your mom replies.
"Remember to thank Mr. and Mrs. Potter for letting you stay with them and be on your best behavior."
"I will mom." You say sighing.
You stare out the car window while your mom drives.
Pretty soon your mom pulls in front of a house.
"I think this is it." She says putting the car in park and turning off the ignition.
You open the car door and step outside and stare at the house.

It wasn't what you were expecting.
But then again you didn't know what to expect.
Before you could think about it anymore you hear a squeal
"She's here!"
A little redheaded girl bursts out the front door.
"Calm down Lily." A redheaded woman says catching up with the girl.
"I'm Ginny Potter Albus's mum." Mrs. Potter says extending her hand towards your mom.
"Isabel Hawthorne." Your mom says taking Ginny's hand and shaking it.
A man with unkempt hair and round glasses comes out of the house to stand by Mrs. Potter in the driveway.
"I'm Albus's dad Harry Potter." He says.
"He's the one I told you about mom he saved the wizarding world 20 years ago." You say.
"Ah yes very nice to meet you Mr. Potter." Your mom says.
"Thank you very much for letting Katie stay with you she's very excited to see the Quidditch World Cup."
"It's no problem really and call me Harry there's no need for formalities." Harry says.
"It shocked us all when Albus asked if he could invite a friend to come along. "
Albus's older brother James says walking from the back of the house to the front.
You had run into him a couple times at Hogwarts mostly he would taunt Albus about being in Slytherin which you found to be annoying.
Mr. and Mrs. Potter give him a stern look.
"You should've seen the look on both your faces when he asked, mum almost fell outta her chair." James says with a grin.
"I did not." Ginny says pointedly.
"James be useful and get Katie's bag out of the car." Says Mr. Potter.
"Alright." James says flinging the car door open making it hit you in the back.
"Ow." You say rubbing your back.
"Would you be careful James." Ginny demands.
"You okay?" Your mom asks.
"Yeah." You say.
"Sorry." James says bending down and retrieving your bag.
"Where's Albus?" You ask purposely ignoring James.
"Inside." Ginny says sighing.
You feel a tug on your shirt and look down to see Lily beaming up at you.
"You get to stay with me in my room tonight." She says.
"I bet you'll be a better roommate than Samantha." You say.
James snorts.
"Why don't you show me to your room." You say grabbing your bag from James.
"Okay." She says excitedly grabbing your hand and dragging you towards the door.
"Katie." Your mom says.
"Yeah." You say turning around.
"Have fun." She says smiling at you.
"I will." You say smiling back at her.
She gets back in the car and drives away.
You head inside with Lily.
Harry, James and Ginny come in right behind you.
Lily leads you up the stairs past two other bedrooms and a bathroom.
"This is my room." She says spreading her arms wide.
It's bright yellow there are two white dressers on either side of the bed
"Very nice." You say looking around.
"Where should I put my bag?" You ask Lily.
"Over there." She says pointing to one of the white dressers.
You walk over to the dresser on the right and put your bag down.
"So you're finally here huh."
You turn around to see who spoke, it was Albus he's leaning against the doorframe.
"Yeah I am. Why didn't you come out to greet me?" You say.
"Well cause I didn't feel like it." He says shrugging.
You scowl at him.
"You invited me here Albus so I kinda expected you to come out and greet me." You say slightly upset.
"Well my family did a pretty good job at it." He says.
"That's not the point." You say harshly.
"I'm your guest Albus and you're supposed to be a gracious host not a rude one."
"Why are you so upset?" He asks.
"Cause I'm starting to think you don't really want me here. Maybe I should call my mom and have her pick me up." You say.
"Don't be ridiculous of course I want you here." Albus says.
"Besides how are you going to call your mom."
"With this." You say showing him your cell phone.
"Oh no please don't do that Katie." Lily says pouting while Albus is looking at you in surprise.
"Albus apologize to Katie and promise her you'll be a better host from now on." Lily demands.
"You're not the boss of me Lily." He says with a smirk.
"Just do it." Lily demands again but this time she stomps her foot.
"Alright." Albus grumbles.
"Katie I'm sorry I didn't come out and greet you when you arrived and I promise to be a better host."
"I accept your apology Albus." You say.
"Happy now." Albus says looking at his sister.
"Yep." She says smiling.
"Now get out of my room."
Albus rolls his eyes and walks back to his room.
Lily turns to you and asks
"Wanna play."
"Sure." You reply.
You and Lily spend the rest of the afternoon playing tea party.
She had a lot of stuffed animals your favorite was a teddy bear she had just recently gotten and couldn't come up with a name for.
"Well how about Mr. Waffles." You suggest.
Lily giggles.
"Why Mr. Waffles?" She asks.
"Cause he's the same color as waffles." You say.
"Also I'm hungry." At that precise moment your stomach growls.
"Let's go see if dad has dinner ready." Lily says getting up and walking to the door.
You follow her downstairs and in to a fairly nice kitchen where the rest of the Potter family are.
"Right on time girls." Ginny says.
"I was just about to have James go upstairs to fetch you."
You and Lily sit down beside each other at the dining room table.
"Aww don't you two look cute." Mr. Potter says smiling setting down a plate with pork sausages on it.
Another dish on the table has mashed potatoes in it and there's also some gravy.
You and Lily had forgotten to take off your tea party outfits.
You were wearing a feather boa and a hat with a huge bow on the side.
"Don't worry mister Potter I took lots of pictures on my phone."
"Oh good you'll have to show them to me later." He says.
"Lily sit somewhere else I wanna sit by Katie." Albus says walking into the dining room.
Lily reluctantly moves to the chair right in front of you.
Behind him is a large ebony colored dog with pointy ears and chocolate brown eyes.
"Oh my god Albus you never told me you had a dog." You say.
The dog comes over to you and starts licking your face excited to meet a new person.
"His name's Snuffles." Albus says.
You give him a quizzical look.
"Dad named him after his godfather's animagus form." Lily chimes in.
"Okay?" You say still confused.
"Is everybody here." Mrs. Potter asks.
You all nod.
"Good then let's eat."
Everybody starts piling their plates with food.
You notice they put the gravy on first then the potatoes and the sausage on top.
"What exactly are we eating?" You ask hoping not to offend them.
"Bangers and mash." James answers.
"Have you never had it before?" Asks Mrs. Potter.
"I have not." You reply.
"What and how long have you lived here?" Albus says incredulously.
"A few years." You say.
"But my mom cooks only American foods. The only real British food I've had was at Hogwarts."
You pick up your fork and cut a piece of one of the sausages and put it in your mouth.
It's really good.
"Katie I've been meaning to ask you why is your mum's last name different than yours?" Mrs. Potter asks.
"My mom and dad separated when I was six so my mom just went back to using her maiden name." You answer.
Mrs Potter frowns.
"Why did they separate and where's your father now."
"Everytime I've ever asked her about it she told me that they both came to a mutual agreement and her and I moved here while dad stayed in America." You answer piling more food onto your plate.
"What's his name?" Albus asks.
"Daniel Mills." You reply.
"I don't know much about him he sends me a birthday card every year but that's it."
"Albus told me you used to play for the Holyhead Harpies Mrs. Potter. You say wanting to avoid anymore questions about your dad.
"Yes I did I was a chaser." Mrs. Potter says.
"Tell Katie about the time you knocked the keeper from the other team through one of the hoops." Lily says grinning.
"It was one of the first games I played with the Holyhead Harpies and the other team's keeper was making snide comments about women playing Quidditch so I threw the quaffle at him so hard that when it hit him in the chest it knocked him off his broom and through one of the hoops and it earned us ten points."
"That would've been hilarious to see." You laugh.
"Oh it was." Mr. Potter says.
"Ron, George and I were doubled over in laughter.
A few minutes later Mrs. Potter is passing around a dish with a dessert called Treacle Tart in it.
Apparently it's Mr. Potter's favorite.
"James it's your turn to do the dishes." Mr. Potter says after everyone has finished their dessert.
James groans.
"

I can help you if you want me to." You say.

"That'd be great." James says.
"

Don't be silly Katie you're the guest." Says Mrs. Potter.
"I don't mind." You say.
"I do them at home besides if I help it'll get done faster."
James grins at you.
"Thanks." He says.
You and James gather all the dishes and silverware.
"I hate that dad makes us do this the muggle way." James says while dumping the dishes in the sink.
"Why don't you wash and I'll dry." You say.
James nods turning the faucet on and pouring soap on the dishes.
"Can I ask you something?" You say to James.
"Sure." He says.
"Why do you always tease Albus about being in Slytherin?"
"I dunno." James shrugs passing you a plate to dry.
"Well could you do it a little less." You say.
"Why?" He asks.
"Because he's your brother."You say a little annoyed. "And because everyone else at school does it too. Every time he walks into a classroom everybody starts snickering."
"Also your his big brother and older siblings are supposed to protect their younger siblings."
James sighs."I guess I could tease him a little less."
"Good." You say smiling and take the last dish from him to dry.
After finishing up the dishes with James you head into the living room where everyone else is.
Sitting down next to Albus you ask.
"What do you guys want to do now?"
Albus shrugs.
You notice an old wizard chess board in the corner.
"Anybody wanna play chess?" You ask pointing to it.
"Oh I forgot Ron left that here." Mrs. Potter exclaims picking it up then setting it in front of you.
You start assembling the pieces.
"Anyone want to challenge me I'm pretty good." You say smiling.
