Chapter 11

Manik - what??

Navya sighed as he broke the silence they had. And that too calmly.

Navya - actually guys.... hum mere office me chalkar baat kare.

They quietly followed her.
The silence in the car was too awkward and thick that it cant even be cut through by a knife. They all felt it too and no one knew what to say.

At the office.
Navya - (smiling nervously) come in...guys...

They all followed in and stood there in a circle ignoring the sitting arrangements.
When she turned taking a deep breath calming herself down she almost ran into Manik who stood in the middle. They were that close. It intimidated her and she again smiled nervously.

Navya - guys. K-kh-khade kyu ho. B-beth jao na. Please.

They all sat on the chairs that were arranged in a circular motion and then Navya sat on the boss chair.

Navya - okay. So. Guys basically the thing is..... you know...

Cabeer - ai Navya seedhe seedhe bol na.

Navya - ha... haa bol rahi hu na.

Cabeer - toh bol na.

Navya - ok. ( taking deep breaths.) Dekho, Manik, aisa hai n ki (nervous laugh) yeh media waale na tumhe toh pata hai kuch bhi dikhate hai. Kisi bhi dost ko girlfriend batate hai. You know how it works. As a friend mein bol rahi hu. Ki yeh sab tumhaari publicity ke liye achha nahi hai. Please dont take me wrong but guys, log unhe pasand karte hai jo stars long run me single ho atleast carreer start tak. You know humaare yaha aisa mana jaata hai ki star agar already sinhle hai toh usse follow karne ka matlab nahi hota. Aage girls tumhaari fans banegi, agar unhe maalum chala ki you are with someone, even though you are not but if you are spot with someone very close, they CAN affect your reputation.

Manik - what are you pointing at?? Chahti kya ho Navya?? Seedhe seedhe kyu nahi bol rahi ho??

Navya - i just want ki album ki success tak you guys just be a little farther. And... that Nandini can live somewhere else.

Manik - no. Nandini mujhe chodkar nahi jaegi.

Nandini - Manik yeh album ke liye...

Manik - nahi Nandu, tu nahi jaaegi bass. I dont care ki mujhe fans mile na mile. Kuch fans ke liye tujhe suffer karne du??

Navya - Manik, she wont suffer. Voh mere saath reh sakti hai. Mein yu bhi akele rehti hu. Mujhe bhi koi mil jaega.

Manik - no. Mein usse dur nahi jaane dunga. Its not like i dont trust you or anything else. But i cant leave her. Nandu kahi nahi jaaegi. Voh meri family hai. Fans ke liye family ko dur bheju.

Navya - Nandini what do you think??

Nandini - agar album ke sales bad jaaenge aur inn sabko usse profit milega toh mujhe koi problem nahi.

Manik - Cabeer, Dhruv, Mukti, Aliya tumhe kya lagta hai.

Fab 4 - Nandu kahi nahi jaaegi.

Navya - (sigh) but kyu nahi? I mean voh kab tak tumhaare saath rahegi. You guys have your families. Nandu ko mein uski family ke paas bhej deti hu kuch time ke liye. Bas kuch time.

All looked down sadly. Aparantly, Navya never questioned them why they live together. She always taught they came here to become singers and so live together. She was curious though. They never talked about their families and she never understand why Nandini lives with them.

She looked at them confused.

Navya - guys, is there something you are hiding?? Nandini apni family ke paas kyu nahi jaati. Why you guys never talked about your families?? You know everything about my family. How long are you living here with each other??

Manik - Nandu......

Nandini understood he wants her to go out for sometime, so that Manik could tell her the reasons.
She quietly nodded and went outside closing the door behind.

Manik - Navya humaari families nahi hai. Humaare surnames nahi hai. Hum sab anaath hai.

Navya -(shocked) what!! Tumne pehle kabhi kyu nahi bataya.

Manik - kyuki aaj se pehle hume kabhi laga hi nahi ki hum anaayh hai. We are a family. Together. That is enough. Aur Nandu... yeh sab ussi ke liye to ho raha hai. Humaari success, humaari mehnat yeh sab uske future ke liye hai.
Navya, humme humaare maa baap ke baare me kuch nahi pata. Voh kab humme chod ke chale gaye. Ya kab humme kahi se laya gaya humme nahi pata. But Nandini, uske saath aisa nahi hai. Voh jaanti hai uske maa baap ki death kaise hui. Usne maa baap ki tasveer dekhi hai. Roz unhe miss karti hai. Jinhone usse orphanage me choda unhone usse sab bataya hai. Uske 18 ki umar ke hote hi uske naam ek ghar aur Kuch zameen padi hai.
Bachpan me usse koi orphanage se le na jaaye aur uska future achha ho iske liye uski saari responsibiity hum sabne le li. Cabeer, main aur Dhruv garage me kaam karne lage. Mukti aur Aliya tailor ki dukaan pe. Sirf isiliye ki Nandu ko achhe college bhejna hai. Achhi padaii karaani hai. Khud ka kuch na ho chalega. Nandu ka future important hai. Aaj tak ussr dur nahi bheja hai. Aage bhj nahi bhejunga. I am sorry.

He had tears in his eyes as he completed. Navya too was a bit emotional. Cabeer looked the other way.

Manik - Navya hum humaare maa baap ko nahi jaante unhr miss nahi kar sakte. Nandu ke maa baap uske saath na hoke bhi uske saatj hai. Humaare liye voh humaara sab kuch hai. Hum nahi reh sakte uske bina. Kabhi nahi.

Navya - okay. I get it. Mein kuch karti hu jisse media koi sawaal na uttha paaye but still Publically you both thoda control. Baaki sab me dekh lungi. Abhi tum log rest karo. And ha kal dinner at my place.

Cabeer - (excietedly) poori bhaaji milegi.

Navya and Manik chukled.

NavNik(Navya + Manik) - bhukhad.

Cabeer gave them a toothy grin. And went outside. Manik thanked Navya and left too.

Navya- oh god.... ab kya karu. Ek minute. Manager. Meri manager mere apartment me rehti thi. Nandini can be there manager. Fir koi problem nahi hogi. Right!! Kal dinner pe discuss karte hai.
