9. Subway

"She's fine keep walking" I hear Bucky chime as I'm suddenly brought back into consciousness, my head pounding as I tune back into my surroundings.
"Alex?" I hear Bucky whisper, I pry my eyes open and my fight or flight mode kicks in when I realise I don't know where I am.
"Alex calm down you're fine" Bucky was holding me, keeping me close to his chest while we stood in the middle of a busy sidewalk in the centre of New York.
"What happened" I mumble getting off of Bucky, heat rose to my cheeks and I instantly feel embarrassed for fainting on him.
"You remembered something and you passed out. You okay?" Bucky asks concern written over his face. He still had a tight grip on my arms as if he was scared i'd disappear.
"Yes I'm fine Buck, let's just go people are looking" I mumble shaking Buckys grip off me and walking ahead of him, ignoring the stares from strangers.
The more I walked the more light headed I felt, the emptier my stomach felt, the drier my throat felt, was I dying? I stop abruptly and lean against the random shop wall, feeling out of breath from doing literally nothing.
"Alex something's wrong....when was the last time we both actually ate or drank?" Bucky asks his eyes wide with realisation as he joins me at my side, his real arm resting on my shoulder.
In Hydra we never needed to eat or drink we had these special injections that would give us our energy, we weren't out of our freezer long enough to need food or anything but now we are both free I'm starting to realise how dependent I have become on Hydra for keeping me going. How did I even live before Hydra?
"I don't know" I glance at him before glancing at a sandwich shop across the road.
"Let's get something from there, it looks familiar" I nod my head across the street at the sandwich shop across the busy road called 'Subway' Bucky wraps his non metal arm around my waist and the moment he does sparks ignite in me, skin contact or just human contact in general is so alien to me, does this normally happen or is it just Bucky? I'm so new to emotions and memories it's like a whole new world, I feel like I've been seeing the world in black and white and now that I'm free from Hydra I'm finally seeing everything in screaming colours.

We enter the shop and order random sandwiches from the menu above the counter that sounded appetising, although all of the sandwiches sounded delicious and I am hungry enough to eat one of each but sadly one sandwich must suffice. While watching it get made, my stomach kept rumbling and my mouth would water just by looking at it.
"Here you go Alex" the girl behind the counter smiles placing the sandwich down in front of me.
"Thank y-- " did she just say my name?

I glance at Bucky who has the same wide eyed look scrawled across his face.
"Don't worry we won't say anything" the brunette winks at us. I read her name tag "Jess" and the blue haired girl is "Hailey".

"We really can't trust you when you say that" I raise my eyebrows at them before glancing at the door debating whether making a run for it will work.
"We swear we won't tell anyone we think youse too are pretty fucking bad ass" Hailey grins.
"Why? we are killers?" Bucky says leaning against the wall.
"We know a lot about what happened to you and Hydra and stuff, we know it wasn't your fault" Jess smiles sadly at us.
