You decide to go downstairs.

You rush out the door, running downstairs.

You look in the kitchen. That seemed to be the source of the screams.

You saw something that horrified you. Your closest friend. Dead. On the ground. You run over to her. Checking her pulse. You couldn't believe it. She couldn't be dead... But you had to believe it. You stood up, and ran to the phone next to the counter. You dialed a number.

911.

You pull the phone away from you in confusion. No signal. You got even more confused. You always had signal out here.

You shook your head, deciding you should go tell your parents. They'll know what to do.

What you didn't realize, though. Was that she was the first of many.

You walked hurriedly up the stairs. Trying to get to your parents' room as soon as possible.

You heard someone call you. You walked over to the room, and opened the door.

What you saw terrified you.

Another one of your closest friends laying unconscious. You ran over to the bed, scared. You reached out tentatively for him, flinching away when you heard him groan in pain. He looked up at you.

"Hurry. Run... Get out... Call the police.... Hurry..." He said. You struggled to hear him. But you did.

You stood up straight again, and walked over to the door.

You reached out for the handle, but then you heard something.

You turned around. A horrified look on your face as you saw what had made the sound.

There, stood something. It strongly resembled a shadow, but being this close to it, you could tell that, clearly, it's not. It stood as tall as the ceiling would let it. The thing had to slouch over somewhat.  It was black in color, and had next to no features on it. The only thing that stood out was it's two, white eyes and a wide, creepy grin. You could see that the legs were long, and ended in only sharp points, while the arms, almost as long, had hands. The digits on said hands were almost eight inches in length.

You could feel your heart beat faster the longer you looked at it. You turned away, and ran as fast as you could, forgetting about telling your father about your best friends' death.

You ran out the door. You were about to head for the hill. You always felt safe there. Like nothing could hurt you. You looked over, only to see your mother's shape. You ran over to her and hugged her. She had a confused look on her face, but she quickly recognized who you were, and hugged you back.

"What is it, sweetheart?" She asked. You smiled, tears forming in your eyes. You loved her. So much. You didn't answer her, but she didn't mind. You heard a noise come from in front of you, and opened your eyes, looking over your mother's shoulders.
You saw another 'shadow'. You got scared. You were right to be.

You pulled away from the hug, and tried to shield her from whatever the 'shadow' was going to do.

"I won't let you kill her," You said to it. It took a step closer.
Another step.

Another.

You didn't realize you had closed your eyes, so you opened them. Bad idea.

The thing was right in front of you. It's face close to your's. Your face scrunched up in fear. It's smirk grew wider at that. It spoke.

"No matter what you do. It will always end up the same way. The way it happens might be a bit different from the others, but it will always happen one way or another. In total darkness,"

You looked at it for a minute, confused. You heard a scream. You looked behind yourself, worried.

Your mother was on the ground. Dead. But how she was there, horrified you.

She was laying on the ground. She was split in half. Her torso was cut in half sloppily. Blood was splattered on the ground. You're pretty sure some got on your back. Her organs spilling on the ground. You fell to the ground on your knees.

You heard a voice.

"It always ends the same way. In
Darkness,"
