It was a sad Saturday... I got out of bed but wasn't in the mood for homemade food. I needed Flares.
I flew slowly towards the familiar building. The neon lights couldn't brighten me up, the shiny floors showed my dull and depressed reflection, the living plants cpdnt relate to my lifeless and tortured soul.
"Table for two?" A Hearthian asked me.
"Just me." I said.
She nodded and pointed towards a few tables. I faked a smile and sat down.
I stared at the menu but all that I could think of was Sam.
French fries on the menu looked like Friend-Fried to me. I was hallucinating... Burgers? It said Burn her. Mango Shake? Man Your Late, Tara Berry Tart? Torturous Part.
I couldn't think straight. Flare approached me but she didn't seem mad or anything. She seemed... Pitiful. She didn't seem to want to be working either.
"Hey." She said taking a chair and sitting down at my table.
"What's up?" I asked her sighing.
"You remind me of Sam." Flare admitted.
"Yeah?..." I asked not really interested.
"When he's depressed he heads here mostly. Always orders the same thing, Mango shake and a burger or fries and extra mustard and cheese. Same thing." Flare sighed.
I nodded sadly. "So you heard the news?" I asked her.
"Yeah. They're doing his funeral in a few days time... I'm doing the catering..." Flare said sadly.
I nodded and felt like crying. Flare was so understanding strangely.
"You know... He's a great guy... He's sweet, he's handsome, he's occasion funny..." She started. "You're a lucky girl you know that?"
She sounded like my mom or something. But I could see her point. "I know."
"And... He was brave to save you." She smiled slightly.
I nodded and smiled a little too. "Thanks Flare."
"Yeah. I'll get you a shake and a burger if you want. On the house." Flare said.
"Thank for the offer but-"
"I insist. It's the least I can do for the Protector."
I rolled my eyes and laughed slightly. "Thanks though. I appreciate it."
I ate my food silently while Flare went back to work.
I left a tip for her and left the building. I wasn't in the mood to hang out with any e so I decided to go to one place... The Underground Carnival.
I asked Pepper for directions and she told me everything and I just told her that someone invited me. It wasn't that big a lie.
When I made it in, I tried to reach for Sam's hand. But I forgot that he wasn't there. I sighed and flashed a fake smile at Fury.
"Hey, heard the news from the boss. Stay hot eh?" Fury said patting my back.
"Thanks Fury." I smiled slightly.
"Don't mention the darn thing. Go in and cheer yourself up."
I was too depressed to get in on a ride anyway. When Sam said that time meant nothing here, he wasn't that wrong... I ate icecream and cotton candy to try to cheer up but I couldn't. I stared at the Swan Boats ride in the distance I remembered us being so sweet there that I almost cried.
I quickly gave myself a brain freeze but I endured it. My heart was already stone cold. How do I avoid sad emotion? Feel nothing at all.
I flew home flying through clouds but even that sweet sensation couldn't put me in a lighter mood. It was depressing. I couldn't take it.
I was back at the house. Tamsin tried to comfort me but I wouldn't be bothered.
"I know you're upset. I am too Heather dear..." She combed her delicate hands through my hair and I just sighed.
She muttered a little then shook her head. "You really did love him...?"
I nodded. "And that love can't be replaced. Not without a reason."
"I know..." Tamsin sighed. "Can't a joke cheer you up?"
"Only he can." I grump.
"Everybody dies... And... We have to get over them sometimes... But we mustn't forget them."
"Yeah..."
"His funeral is later..." Tamsin sighs.
"They don't have his body..."
"They don't always need a body, sometimes, they just need their essence."
I sigh.
"You have to change into something white... Our sybol of purity..."
"So must the protector." I sigh.
"Pepper said she was coming over later. She knows it isnt your fault." Tamsin says ruffling my hair a little. "She can get you something you something to wear that you'll like."
"Alright."
Pepper was instantly over her eyes were somewhat bloodshot and she had dark circles under her eyes. She looked like she cried for days... Which was a huge possibility.
"I know what you need." Pepper said slowly.
My normal clothes then turned into white and gold boots, long white pants with golden swirls and lines, a long-sleeved shirt like the ones princes wear but with a feminine twist and a few frills here and there. It wasn't that girly so I went with.
I hugged Pepper.
"You gonna be ok?"
"Yes. He was a brave hero. To do that... For you... Not everyone would be that willing..." She sighed and her regular clothes turned into a white dress that had really long sleeves and it reached her knees. It had the smiliar pattern and design to my own with a few extra frills.
Tamsin was just getting changed in het own room however. I stroked the cover of the jokebook Sam have me loving and held it to my chest.
"You miss him that much too... But it barely looks like you've cried..." Pepper laughs.
"I kept myself busy and stuff." You laugh too.

I was staring at the coffin that lay in front of me. It was empty but it was sad to see.
"I shall now harvest the essence of our beloved Warrior, Joker, Lover, and Brother, named Sam." Sàrda announced his usual outfit in white.
There was a bottle in front of him. And it started blowing but there was nothing inside it for two whole minutes.
"Sam...?" Sàrda stuttered.
I looked at Sàrda.
"Heather..."
"Yeah?..." I looked at him.
"He's still alive."
A cheering shout was burst out by all Hearthian. Everyone cared and me?... I was just starstruck, smiling, and crying at the same time.
"Sam..."
