Chapter 6 - Becoming Tea

(if you intend to watch legend of korra don't read this part. as there is a bending spoiler. it isn't a plot spoiler but it is an important piece of... i think season 2? maybe season three? idk)

Time goes on and for the next few weeks everything is very quiet. Occasionally Zuko does ask for your help for matters concerning how he should feel, but for the most part he makes the nation choices on his own. You hadn't decided yet if you were the leafs or the water but you supposed you would figure that out when the time comes.

Today Zuko had asked you to run an errand for him. a simple task really, the only reason he was sending you was because he was far too busy trying to negotiate a peace treaty with the earth nation. You briskly walk through town viewing the shops that line the streets. Your mission was to discreetly listen for information about any more rebels in the fire nation. Zuko tries not to take it out on everyone in the nation but he knows people are still out to get him your job is to figure out who.

You stop at a food cart and look at some fresh fruits and veggies. 'couldn't hurt to look. After all I'm supposed to be listening for information so if I act like a normal shopping person then nobody will be any the wiser.' You can't just go around asking people or knocking on their doors, that'd be false accusations and is highly frowned upon.

"I felt safer when Ozai was in power."

"I know what you mean. The fire nation was strong when it was the head of a war. We were strong and well protected."

"now we just look weak as our fire lord kisses everyone's feet in apology for his father and grandfather's war."

You hear this conversation going on at the food stall next to the one you have stopped at.

Across the road some children run past loudly and bump a cart of cabbages causing it to fall over. "MY CABBAGES! Why does everything bad always happen to my cabbages!?"

"well I don't know if you heard but since the new Ozai organization was all arrested Mitu Lofu has been gathering supports in planned an assault on the palace."

"really?"

"yeah actually" he looks around and lowers his voice to where you have to strain your ears to hear him. "you see I'm a member of the group. If you want Ozai to return to power, then come to our meeting tonight."

"alright I think I will."

You frown slightly. 'just as Zuko had feared. People really are still out to get him. what's worse is they are planning an assault for tonight. I don't know the exact time or scale of assault but still nothing good can come of this.'

-later-

You return to the palace and find a frustrated Zuko with his nose buried in a law book. You think this quite humorous and smirk a bit. "brushing up on your law Zuko?"

"kind of." Zuko frowns. "I was studying the effectiveness of laws over the centuries. I think perhaps it's time to rearrange our system but I want a clear idea of how I want the system to function before I change everything."

"sounds like a good plan." You reply and take you seat at the table next to Zuko.

"never mind this." Zuko shakes his head and looks at you. "did you find any information?"

"yeah I did." You sigh. "apparently some guy named Mitu Lofu is pla..."

There is a large crashing sound from outside that cuts you off. Both you and Zuko run to the window to look outside. Through the window from outside a rope gun fires its rope thingy. The rope fires through the window and shatters it but completely misses you and Zuko.

"we're being attacked!?" Zuko shakes his head in disbelief. "but why!?"

You both step back from the window as two ninja masked men leap up and through the broken window.

"just him leave the girl she isn't important!"

"yes sir!"

They go after Zuko but he skillfully wrecks them with a sweep attack.

The two stand back up and are join by more ninja dressed fellows who then begin to win simply by overwhelming Zuko.

You feel like this is your trip to the docks all over again. Zuko fights fire benders while you watch helplessly and uselessly from the side lines. 'why must people come after zuko. He's never done anything wrong!' The longer the fight drags on the more angry you become. These people fight for somebody that never had their best interest in mind, against somebody who could bring a golden age of peace to all four nations.

Zuko is doing a pretty good job of fending off all the attackers on his own until seemingly from nowhere he gets rope gunned. "omff." The sound he makes as he hits the ground.

"we got him!"

"yeah!"

"we did it!"

"now we can return Ozai to the throne and free all the citizens this phony had locked up."

That cracks it right there. You don't care if you aren't strong, you don't care if you can't bend. These people are not only insulting Zuko but they also think you aren't worth even fighting. You've had it up to the ceiling with rebel bull crap and you're not going to take it anymore. You glare at the men with your fists clinched. "you people are the worst."

"hu?" they turn and look at you as if they had forgotten you were even there.

"how dare you..." you growl. "come in here and assault the fire lord after everything he's done to help."

The ground begins to shake slightly causing the ninja dressed men to freak out a little.

"do you have any idea how hard he works to keep this nation in one piece!?" you scream still clenching your fists and grinding your teeth. "after everything he's done to set right all the problems you still think it's fine to just break in here and attempt to assassinate him!? did you really think I'd stand idly by and let you go through with this!?"

The ground is now shaking so violently that it breaks apart in some places and lava leaks out. (lavabending is canon in Korra her earth bending friend can bend magma. This was the spoiler i warned about.)

"my days of not getting involved are over." You feel interesting mighty power flowing through your body. You raise one hand just a tiny bit and see the lava leaking from the floor move with you. 'lavabending. Interesting.' You smirk a bit and push the lava out of the ground in a pillar. "those who think they can get away with hurting Zuko without first dealing with me will regret it."

"holy shit man this wasn't in the job description!"

"I'm out!"

"yeah screw this!"

They all flee as fast as they can. As you calm down the lava in the floor cools down and the floor kind of fixes but it looks still broken.

Your hands shake a bit. "I didn't know I could do that."

Zuko huffs from the floor and looks around at all the cracks near him. "you could have tried a little harder to fry me along with the intruders." He chuckles nervously.

"Zuko!" you hurry and untie him and check that he's ok. "I'm so sorry I didn't know I could do that!"

"it's ok." Zuko smiles. "that was actually really awesome. You sure scared those guys really good."

You blush slightly. Even though you nearly dropped him in lava he's still complementing your skill.

"you've done well. You know most people don't care about me the way you do." he smiles gently and lifts your face up towards him. "your very special (y/n)" before you even know what has happened he kisses you.

A few things happen at this point. One you finally realize how he feels about you, and two, you finally realize that you are the water and Zuko is the leaf.
