Back Stabbers

*At the entrance*

I smell a sweet scent. To be precise the smell reminds me of sugar cookies. 

"Hey you guys smell that?" I asked.

"No, but I got to go pee!" Ceta says walking funny.

"Me too." Romany adds.

"Alright I'll be right here when you two get back." I said leaning on the wall playing a game on my phone.

*Thunder and lightning*

You know that feeling you get when you feel like you're being watched in the dark. I know I probably have said this a million times, but I just got that feeling in my stomach. However I'm just gonna ignore it and continue playing dumb ways to die. I like playing this game, because it's funny how it works. Just when you think you got everything figured out there's actually something you over looked. As a result you die. Come to think of it real life is just like that. Everyone probably has a specific cause of death, a year, a month, a week, a time of day when they die. This makes me wonder when will I die?

*The wall spinned and revealed a secret passage*

I walked down it the secret passage only to find out it lead back to the nursery. That's when I remembered vaguely talking to the mayor, but I remember much clearer how crazy he looked. I wonder if he's still down here.

"Mayor?" I called out while walking around.

*Baby music playing*

A sound coming in the back of the nursery caught my eye. It was coming from the mayor. He was attempting to grab a piece of cheese from inside a rat trap covered with needles.

"Why are trying to get cheese from a rat trap?"

"What does it look like I'm trying to do?"

"Nevermind so how come you're here at Smile's house if you never even liked him?"

"Now let me stop you there. There was a time when we were friends."

Mayor's P.O.V.

*flashback*

The year was 1956 I was a incoming Sophmore at Heights Highschool. I didn't know anybody and I felt so alone I was pratically a ghost at school. My family had just moved to this town over the summer and I was having difficulty adjusting. It seemed no matter how hard I tried to get people to like me they didn't like me for things I couldn't change like my nose or the way I looked. So one day I went into the woods and ended up lost and I swore to myself that today was gonna be the day I would end all my pain. I was gonna end my pain by drowning myself in the river. Just as I was about to jump off this cliff. I heard someone grab a hold of my shoulder.

Smiles said, "Are you okay?"

I didn't know how to respond, because I felt so embarrassed.

"Who are you?" I asked.

"My name is Smiles. What's your name?"

"My name is Don."

"Don what are you doing down here by yourself in the woods?"

"I was looking for something to do." I said avoiding eye contact.

"Correct me if I'm wrong it appeared to me you were trying to kill yourself by jumping into the river all the way down there. I've seen countless of people jump and none has survive. Would you like to be friends? You look like you could use a friend?"

"You're not messing with me right?"

"No of course not."

"Then why are you being so nice to me?"

"Why not?" He then walked off towards his house smiling. "Are you coming?"

It seemed like I spent most of my childhood with him. He went everywhere with me. Thanks to him I no longer had a speech problem. Everything seemed to be to good to be true about this guy. One day we were over  at his house talking about what we were going to do before the summer is over and he sprung up he was immortal. I thought he was kidding, because he always liked to play jokes on me.

"Prove it."

"Okay." He said Smiling. "I'm gonna jump in the river."

We walked over to the site to jump off. Then he jumped. I felt relieved when I heard him shout with laughter at the bottom. I thought how cool it would be to be immortal. Truth is I idolized him.

"How could I become immortal like you?" I asked on the way back to his house.

"Don you can't just become immortal. You have to be born with the genes."

That was my one chance of being happy forever. After that day I stopped hanging out with him, because I thought he was just another person who looked down upon me.

*flashback ended*

"Wow I can't believe you stopped being friends over something silly."

"What do you mean?"

"You said it yourself you idolized Smiles and when you couldn't be immortal you devestated. I think the reason you were devastated was because you thought Smiles wouldn't like to hangout with you when you were older."

"I never thought of it like that." The mayor said scratching his head. "It is silly."

Suddenly Smiles walks in.

"What has he said to you about me?"

"How you two use to be friends."

"Really that's it?

"Yeah. Why?"

"Ever since we stopped being friends he's been speaking badly of me trying to ruin my life."

"Your point is?"

"I don't want people to believe those lies, so I had to do something about it. Which was to keep him held hostage here."

"Y

ou shouldn't hold people hostage for one it's against the law and for two you shouldn't have to try to keep people in your life if they don't want to be there. Someday the right people will walk into your life and stay there."

"Fine you're free to go Don."

"Don isn't there something you want to say to Smiles?"

"Thank you."

"Besides thank you."

"Oh right." Clears throat. "Can we be friends again?"

"I would like that very much." Smiles said grinning. "Sorry for overreacting and keeping you hostage."

"It's okay."

*Don exits*

"I'm cold. Smiles do you have anything I can wear?"

"All I have is this robe."

"Thank you and Smiles I've been trying to figure this out for a long time. W

hat is it about me that caused you all this trouble to keep close?"

He responds "You remind me alot of my mother."

Suddenly Ceta and Romany could be heard walking through the secret passage and Asia tells Smiles to hide she doesn't want Ceta to see Smiles, because Asia knows that Ceta and her planned to seek revenge on Smiles.

"I'll be right back. I need to go talk to them."

Before Asia can even get her words out Romany unexpectedly stabs Asia o

ut of freight thinking she was Smiles.

*Asia body falls to the ground with a thud*

"Oh my gosh Asia."
