hayley's point of view

--

He made himself comfortable next to me. His gaze only on me. " So, are you gonna be quiet, or do you actually want to engage in conversation " he said, his Scottish accent clear in his deep voice.

" Um, yeah, um hi " I said, my awkwardness radiating off my body.

" Why are you here " he said, flat with no emotion. He was back with the attitude he had when u first met him, stone cold.

" Um, my grandmother said I'd be safe here " I told me. His eyes filled with confusion. " So, what's your peculiarity? "

" Um, " I said, thinking about how I could possibly describe it, without confusing him.

" Basically, I don't feel pain " I told him, " and I can transfer pain, and heal things " I continued.

His thick brows furrowed together. " What do you mean, you can't feel pain? "

" I just don't, nothing hurts me, unless I transfer pain to myself " I explained.

He still looked confused, and I wanted to show him. I looked around the room, and saw some glass shards sitting on the nearby table, probably a broken base or glass one of the children broke earlier.

I took a shard of glass, medium in side, and pressed it against my skin, cutting deep. I watched as the blood started to trickle out of the freshly cut wound, and Enoch's face turned into complete horror. " Hayley, you don't feel that? "

I just shook my head. I then put my hand over my wound, and left it there for about twenty seconds. When I lifted it, the wound was gone, not even a scar could be seen. Enoch's face lit up, " That's amazing " he said.

My heart fluttered, my stomach filling with butterflies again. I felt the feeling of warmth brush upon my face, and I knew my complexion was mixed with a fair pink color.

He noticed, " You're skins a little pink Hayley, you okay " he said, a smirk lined his face.

" Yeah " was all I could spit out.

Our eyes were connected, and I wanted to stay in this moment forever. But, like always, moments like this were short, and I learned to accept it. Olive's voice rang throughout the living room, telling us that dinner is being served.

I stood up first, Enoch following me, then the other children who were not given a dinner time chore. I made my way to the dining area, following Olive's tall, skinny figure. She guided me to my seat, and I sat down. Bronwyn sat next to me. Across from me sat Jake and Emma, Jake helping Emma fasten into the seat with her restraint. She smiled at him, giving him a quick peck on the cheek. I smiled, watching displays of affection always made me smile.

I looked towards the end of the table, and Enoch sat at the opposite head of the table. Next to him sat Olive of the corner of the other side of the table. They were discussing some topic, my eyes fixated on their interactions. Enoch's head looked towards me, and he noticed I had been staring when we made eye contact. My head immediately went down, embarrassed.

The table then filled in with the children that helped with dinner, and then Miss Peregrine sat at the end of the table, next to me, and told us we could start eating. I took a few bites of carrots and mashed potatoes, not touching the meat.

Casual conversation was heard along the table, when soon, all attention was turned on me. " So, Hayley, what exactly is your peculiarity " Millard asked.

" I'm what's called an empathic healer, I can heal myself and other people, transfer pain, it's pretty useful if you think about it " I explained. Everyone started asking questions, and I answered honestly, like what I've healed in the past and do certain things hurt the most when I transfer pain.
