Another dream.
I could see my eight year old self; white blonde hair tied up neatly into a braid. I wore my usual blue pyjamas lined with gold patterns near the hems. I remember wearing it almost every night. They were my favourite. I was sleeping on my own bed which was maybe ten times too large for me.
The room was big too. There was one large window where the moonlight always penetrated. Just below the panes would be a small couch. There were also two cabinets with intricate designs situated opposite each other not too far from my bed. One cabinet had my normal clothes while the other had clothes for special occasions. There was a desk, a chest where I kept my toys, and a bunch of other stuff hanging on the wall.
It seemed as if I was floating over my eight year old self. I could see myself twist and turn in my sleep. I don’t know what the reason is but I have been getting this same dream for quite some time now. Maybe a month or so? I wasn’t able to keep track but it came so often that I already knew what was going to happen in next few scenes.
I wake up. I rub my eyes and yawn. I sit up, look at the dark surroundings. It’s snowing outside. For some reason I get out of bed and walk towards the big window and climb on the small couch. I open the windows. The wind wasn’t too strong but the cold never really bothered me. I knelt there looking at the full moon like it was the prettiest thing in the world.
I didn’t know why, but I just did. Sometimes I think that the moon was trying to tell me something. Crazy right? Well…crazy runs in the blood.
Anyways, the things happening next are, well, confusing.
I still see myself staring up into the moon, not letting the cold snow and wind disturb me, when something from the dark shadows of my room take shape. I don’t even know how to describe it only that it looked like a shadow of something. A person? I’m not sure. It looked like a mix of a person and an unidentified animal all at once.
It had no face, just plain black. It was walking, maybe crawling and/or floating but whatever it did to move forward it did towards the clueless me who was still staring up at the moon.
As the thing got closer I could feel my floating self’s heart race, my adrenaline rushing through my veins. I knew the thing was dangerous.
“Amelia, behind you!” I found my own mouth moving but the voice that came out wasn’t mine. It was similar but not mine. I floated and blocked the way of the moving shadow but it would just pass through me like a black cloud through me, ignoring my presence.
The shadow figure continued to get near the right year old me. I felt so afraid that it might get to me. I didn’t even know what it was going to do but it can’t go near my child self.
“AMELIA!!” I yelled so loud in hopes of getting my eight year old self’s attention but still nothing happened. Just when the shadow figure was just a meter’s away from little Amelia I got myself in between them.
“You’re not getting through me!” I say with so much conviction that I notice how the air gets colder, something from behind me goes brighter. I turn around and see nothing but blinding light. Was it the moon? I didn’t know. I got one hand over my eyes in hopes of making something out of the light but nothing. I couldn’t even see my eight year old self anymore, or the window pane, or the couch. Even the moon I wasn’t able to make out anymore. It was just pure white.
Behind me I could hear a faint groaning. The voice was deep and a little bit distorted. I didn’t know who it belonged to but I never got the chance to turn around to find out because before I can the dream ends and I wake up.
