The day has finally arrived: their first date. Petra wasn’t even sure if she could call it a date since she wasn’t really sure what happened the previous night.

“I came over to ask you to take a walk with me the day after tomorrow but I ended up confessing my feelings for you.”

Levi’s words echoed in Petra’s head as she blushes. Levi likes her. She likes Levi. It’s mutual love … but nothing really happened? Are they dating? Is it too much to call this dating? Petra didn’t want to think too much about it and embarrass herself. She brushed it off and thought about how she wouldn’t treat Levi too kindly today to keep up the seniority: He was her captain and she was part of his squad.

Petra showered and put on her uniform. It wasn’t that special of a day and Petra didn’t want to seem desperate. She began to head out.

Levi was in his room, thinking. “What have I done…” He was slightly regretting his decision to confess his feelings yesterday. He was stuck in the moment and confessed. Too late now. What’s done is done. He didn’t want to ruin their previous relationship by confessing, in fear that she didn’t like him back. But she does. He doesn’t know what to do since she actually confessed her feelings for him. He didn’t expect it at all. He decided to put all his ambivalent feelings behind him as he heads out in his uniform.

They decided on meeting up in the park. Petra arrived first and stood looking at the water in the fountain. She eventually shifted her focus to look at her own reflection in the fountain. She gasps. She always thought she was pretty before she entered training but the training really tired her out. She has dark circles under her eyes and split ends all over. Even though she was determined to devote her life to killing titans, she was still a girl.

“Petra?”

Petra jumps back, startled. She was so immersed in looking at herself in the fountain, she didn’t hear Levi calling her name.

“Yes, Captain! Good morning!”

Levi sighs. “I told you to call me Levi. Le-vi. Leeeeeeee-viiiiiii. Got it? Say it with me now. Le-”

“Levi.”

Levi is at a loss for words. Just saying his name sent chills down his spine. He was head over heels – or rather boots – for her. He stares blankly at Petra deep in thought. Petra stares back for a minute or so, but eventually looks away due to embarrassment. She hides her flushed face behind her hair.

“Levi…?”

“Sorry I just- I mean I- I just-” Levi stutters nonstop and can’t find the right words to express how he feels. “Thanks.”

“For what?”

“For saying my name. It was nice hearing you say it… I’d like to hear it more often from now on.”

Petra’s face becomes even more flushed as she looks straight down at her shoes.

“S-Sure…”

“You don’t want to?” Levi asks teasingly. He knew she would agree but just wanted to make sure.

Thinking he might be mad Petra jumps up and exclaims, “No I’d love to call you by your name!”

The elderly couples in the park turn their attention to Petra’s sudden outburst. In moments, applause breaks out and a crowd gathers.

“Kiss her! Kiss her! Kiss her!”

Petra is a tomato. Levi is blushing too but more on the strawberry side of things. They stand there for a couple moments before Levi grabs her hand and whispers in her ear, “Come with me.”
