Where could that thing be?
Please, I know it's a common struggle that socks tend to disappear in the dryer and that food always has a way of being gone when you're hungry, but how the hell does a person lose their jacket?
That's probably a struggle only known to me.
So, in my excitement of going to tell Sam that we were allowed to go gather the lightstones, I might have made a mess of my room.
'Ailith, what are you doing' my mom asked looking quite confused.
'I'm looking for my leather jacket' I said as I threw another piece of clothing behind me.
'Auch'
'Oh I'm sorry' I mumbled when I saw that I threw the pair of cargo pants straight to my mother's face.
Frustrated she folded the pants and placed them on my bed.
'Ailith, I get that you're exited, but please don't make such a mess of your room' she said and she looked me in the face.
'So what, then you just don't come in'
Yes, I know that's mean, but unlike me my mom is a very patient woman she has all the time in the world for me. Most of the time at least.
She sighted: 'Ailith, please, before you get all pissed at me there's something I need to tell you'
'Okay?' I wondered what that could be. It's not like I've done anything wrong this time right? Well, if this room doesn't count.
'Tonight Gale is coming back honey. I told him he could sleep in our bungalow because his is being repaired' she looked at me. 'Please don't be mad that I told him he could stay in your room'
Yes, great idea. Let Gale sleep in my room. Without discussing it with me. Great idea.
But to be honest I didn't really mind. Gale was kind of like an older brother to me, except for the fact that we weren't actually related.
Gale was the one that taught me how to use a bow. I was hella exited. Well, I was until my mom found out. I think she didn't even look at Gale for the next four months. But they reconciled it after they figured that this fight was going nowhere. Which it wasn't by the way.
And about his house being repaired, that's a funny story too.
He accidently fired an exploding arrow in his living room. I guess that's all you need to know to guess his personality.
'He's coming back?' I asked excitedly. 'Tonight?'
'Yes finally. Took him way to long' my mom said. She looked happy to see him again, made me happy too.
'You missed him of course' I said with a smirk on my face.
'Yeah, sure. You annoying brad. Just go to Sam' she said as she slapped my head playfully.
Gale was my mom's best friend ever since they were little kids, grew up together, stuff like that.
Sounds like everything I could wish for for me, Alexis and Sam.
'If I could I would, but I can't find my damned jacket'
'Don't swear Ailith, that's not the way I raised you. And it's on the coat rack blind one. Just like your dad, he always lost his stuff as well'
Silence. Great, this again. My mom brings up my dad, neither of us knows what to say, and we just sit there in silence.
'Good, I'll go then' I say as I walk past her in the doorway.
I can see hurt on her face. I wonder how many times she still thinks of him. I know I remind her of him. Not that I know a lot about him, but I know enough. I want to know him though, I want to know what made him decide to leave. But I can't ask. Usually I have a big mouth, but this is something else.
I can see my mom hurt when she talks about him, so I never do it. I should, but I don't.I see that my jacket is indeed on the coat rackand I grab as I walk outside.
Our village is beautiful. That's a fact. When I walk outside I can look overthe entire village.
Little wooden bridges connect the tree houses and beneath us we can see thetown square. The trees are up to 20 meters long. The village elders say they'vebeen enchanted by the tree of the wisdom that is rooted a couple of kilometres awayfrom here.
I've never seen it. None of us is allowed to see it except for the youngstersthat are turning 18 and the creatures involved in the organisation.
And I'm finally going to see it too!
I continue my way down the wooden bridges, passing a couple of houses along theway.
A bird sits down on the rope that keeps the bridge together and starts singingpeacefully.
I stood still and looked at it for a couple of seconds. It sounded beautiful.
Then I felt a hard thing bumping in to my side. I fell down and hit the groundwith a smack.
A sharp pain went through my arm as I started to get back to my senses.
Where am I?
'Oh my god I am so sorry' I heard a voice coming from above me.
You better be whoever you are.
'Are you alright?' it said again. I couldn't place who it was but it soundedsomewhat familiar.
'What' I said as I open my eyes.
As my vision started to get sharper I was able to see the shape of an boy.
'Is everything okay?'
That's the moment I'm back got to earth.
'I guess so' I mumbled as he pulled me up.
'I am so so sorry'
'You already said that' I huffed out and I started to swipe leaves and dirt ofme.
'Yes, but I really am' he said again.
The boy tried to get eye contact with me, bending over until he almost pressedhis face into mine.
'Djeez calm down I already said I was fine'
I'm not interested in your face my dear.
'Oh, okay then' he said looking kind of lost.
Well, I sure wasn't going to help him get out of this awkward situation.
'I'll just pick this back up then' he said as he sat down on his knees andstarted to gather stuff that I suppose fell out of his backpack.
'You're the mailman' I said as the realisation hit me. 'Who were you lookingfor?'
'Euhm, the family-' he quitted his sentence and read the name on the package. 'Lendric'
'Well, then you don't have to look any further' I said, feeling kind ofuncomfortable watching the guy clear up his mess.
'Wait, you're Ailith Lendric?' he asked, turning all red.
'That's me' I mumbled as I grabbed the package he held up to me.
'That one's for you. It was the last one I had to deliver. Sorry for bumping into you again, but I was kind of in a rush. I have to get to my boss you see' hestumbled.
'Yeah, it's fine' I said, not really aware of him anymore.
The package looked strange, wrapped in some brownish paper held together bylittle ropes.
It was around the size of a small bread, same shape, however it weighted a lotmore.
So I wondered what that could be. It's not like I had any family that couldhave send me this, unless you add aunt Martha that lives in Combridge, avillage on the other side of the wood.
And even if she send it, what does a 70 years old cat woman with an obsessionfor mountain stones send a 17 years old.
'I'm sorry, I really have to go now. I'm supposed to be back at the town hallat 12' the mailguy spoke uncomfortable.
'Wait, what time is it?' I asked looking up from my package.
'It's 11.45. I'll eh see you later I guess' he uttered and he ran off.
Shit, it was already 11.45. And I was supposed to be at the garage at 12.30.Ánd I had to find Sam in the meantime. I was doomed.
So I ran down the bridges, clenching my package to my side, on my way to thebig tree.
When I arrived I hopped into the basket that was positioned in the middle ofthe hollow tree.
Once I was in, the basket started to fall down the tree, leaving me with onlythe light of the torches that were hanging on each side of the walls. The firethat came from it was blue, cold fire.
Some wizards came up with the idea to prevent the entire tree from catchingfire, pretty smart if you ask me.
Before I knew it I was on the ground, the sunlight burning in my eyes.
I stepped outside, feeling the soft soil get pressed under my feed.
Find Sam.
Where the hell do you find an innocent, kind of lonely 17 years old wizard boyon a free day.
Same, I didn't know either.
