Two days after Jay had been buried I was still shaken. I didn't think I would have ever gotten over it without Natalie's and Genji's help. Genji had continued training with me. I had started to greatly doubt my abilities. I also had had a feeling I began to drift into mild depression, but with Genji and Natalie, I felt that their presence had stopped that. They tried to keep me happy, but I knew that even if I did laugh, it wasn't even a quarter of a step closer to where I wanted to be.

But at least I thought I was still getting there.

Today was a new day, though. I felt it. I had been excusee from work for three days because of Genji, so I spent most of the day training with him and working with Natalie anyway. I knew that Genji had worked hard to get me the days off. His brother and father probably thought he was mentally retarded for caring for a slave so much. Today was my last day off, and I felt as though I should spend the whole day sparring with Genji.

I slipped on the new shoes Genji had given me that have two toes on the top like a bird's foot (like his skin's shoes, idk what they're called sorry). I sighed and looked around my small room. I made sure I hadn't forgotten to do anything and then I opened my door and stepped outside. I closed it behind me and inhaled.

I started to walk towards the dojo. I walked past a few slaves and waved to them. They waved back as I walked by. They looked a bit confused. I exited my building and ran across the garden to the Master's building where the "royal" dojo was.

I opened the door to find Genji sitting on a bench against the wall, polishing his sword. Again. "Sorry I'm late," I grunted, closing the door behind me.

"It's fine," Genji replied, not even looking up at me. He finished polishing the sword and then looked at me. He smiled. "I've got good news for ya."

I cocked my head to the side. "Hmm..?" I muttered, squinting. "What's that?"

"I asked Hanzo to ask my father for a new sword. He did it, and my father agreed. He's having the sword made today. It's for you," he said, making me gasp. He grinned, putting the sword down and walking closer to me. "But Hanzo and my father don't know that. I'll probably just get slapped in the face or something; nothing too bad."

I blinked. "Why would you-?"

"Because I can't have you dulling that display sword for the rest of your life; that's my grandfather's sword. My father would actually kill me if he found out I let you put your hands on it."

I stared at him. I was absolutely dumbstruck. He's actually having a sword made- for me, a peasant- and he's doing more against his father for me. I was confused, mainly because I didn't expect him to feel to get me my own sword so quickly.

"In the mean time," he said, "we should probably brush up on some tactics. Hanzo said the sword would be done by noon."

I nodded in understanding. "Alright."

Genji handed me the sword he was polishing. It was his; it had a sliver blade with a green zig zag pattern on the bottom of it. The grip was black with a white diamond pattern on it and I honestly found the sword to be heavier than I expected.

Genji seemed to notice this. "Having trouble?"

"N-No, it-it's fine," I said.

He shrugged. "Okay, then let's begin."

We started with some basic movements. I had to try really hard because the sword was heavy. As we trained, I froze as I heard a sharp knock on the door.

Genji's eyes darted to the door. He looked at me and I handed him his sword. He put it into a scabbard on his back and I sat down behind the bench so I wouldn't be seen. Luckily, we hadn't been talking while the person had knocked.

"Yeah?" I hesrd Genji ask.

"Brother, your sword is ready. It is asked that you go and fetch it," I heard Hanzo reply.

"But it's only, what, 10 am?" he asked.

"I never said that it wouldn't be done early, Genji. Come get it now or we'll have to scrap it."

"What the fuc-" he muttered. I heard a grunt, assuming that Hanzo had pushed him into the hallway.

I heard the door close and I stayed behind the bench. That was weird. I waited a minute and then peeked over the arm rest. There was no one there.

I stood up. I glanced around the room and quickly ran to the door. I pressed my ear up against it. Nothing. I pushed the door open and closed it quietly. I darted down the hallway toward where I presumed that Genji and Hanzo would be.

There was no sign of them, so I bolted before the Master could see me. I sighed and stalked along the hallways. Maybe they went to a store in town for the sword. Yeah, that must be it.

I sighed. Somehow, I felt bad about this. Did Hanzo find out? No, Genji is too good at hiding that stuff. I decided to leave it be. They'd probably be back, I didn't know why I was being so anxious.

I returned to my room. I had the rest of today off. I sighed and closed my eyes, burying my face in my hands with my elbows on my knees. I sat there for a while until I heard a knock on my door.

"Y/n?" I heard Natalie's voice.

I immediately answered, sitting up. "Yes, come in."

She opened the door slowly. "What're you doing?"

"Waiting for Genji to come back."

"From where?"

"A trip on his father's business, I don't know," I lied.

Natalie nodded and shrugged. "I understand. And I presume youmre working tomorrow again..?"

"Yep," I replied. "I'm not looking forward to it."

Both Natalie and I laughed a bit at this. It was true though; I wished I could just not work at all, like Genji or Hanzo. I groaned. I didn't know what was taking him so long, but I had a feeling it wouldn't be good. Maybe the two were being-

I gasped. The man. He had said he'd come for me if I was lying- and I was. I stood up and Natalie was staring at me with a baffled expression.

"No time to explain," I said, trekking past her and opening the door. "Follow me, Genji'll get you an excuse."

Natalie gulped and nodded, hurrying next to me. I started to walk toward the huge gate that seperated the Shimadas from everyone else. They'd been attacked; I could feel it.

Genji's POV:

Genji looked over at Hanzo as the familiar man jumped down from the roof of the arcade. He looked back at the man. Hanzo and Genji were on their way back to the clan when this man had jumped down in front of them. Genji was holding his new blade for Y/n; Hanzo had gotten himself a new blade as well.

"Ah, just the two I was looking for," he grinned, snapping and having three more men jump down next to him silently.

"What do you want?" Hanzo growled.

The man looked at Hanzo. "You will soon see," he said, looking back at the three men and shouting something in Japanese.

The three men lunged forward, and Genji instinctively whipped the sword out, as well as Hanzo. Y/n wasn't going to get to be the first one to use the blade; but she'd understand, right?
