Chapter 1
••Ashton's POV••
I climb out of the car and stare up at my school. It's good to be back, two months away from a place can do a lot to a person and I've really missed being here. It's where I belong.
I grab my suitcases and drag them behind me up the stairs of the gothic castle in front of me, it's a pretty suitable building for a school of Necromancy.
Walking through the door and into the entrance hall, I look around at the familiar room lit by candles in black candelabras. Though the outside looks like the building is crumbling down, the inside is pretty modern. I head along the halls to the main office to find out who I'll be sharing a dorm with, hopefully it'll be Luke, Calum and Michael, my best mates. Pushing open the door, I see Mrs. Hopkins, the woman who's worked here for as long as I can remember.
'Hi Mrs. H,' I say, 'Had a good break?' The elderly woman looks up at me, smiling,
'Ashton, how are you?'
'I'm good thanks, I was wondering if you could tell me which dorm I'm in and who I'll be sharing with?'
'Oh of course dear.' She replies,
'Hold on one second, I'll just check the system.'
'Thanks.' She clicks around with the mouse for a bit before looking up at me,
'You're on the top floor, in room 5 and you're sharing with Calum Hood, Luke Hemmings and Michael Clifford.'
'Awesome, thanks again Mrs. H.' I say, grinning.
'Oh it's no problem dear, now go and unpack.' I pick up my bags again and head for the stairs and to my new room.
••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
I push open the door and immediately a bowl of green glop falls on my head.
'What the actual fuck Michael?' I ask my best friend who is standing there, laughing his arse off.
'You-should-have-seen-your face!' He gasps, practically sobbing.
'How amusing you are.' I say, waving my hand and making the mess disappear.
'Damn! I forgot you could just do that.' He says.
I stare at him,
'How can you forget that your best mate is a freak of nature?' I ask. Oh right, I should explain. This school is the 'The Academy of the Necromatic Arts', yeah that's right, we're Necromancers. We can all see and talk to ghosts, we can also bring the odd animal back to life. We help the ghosts pass over to the side of the Veil that is meant for the dead and sometimes have to force the, shall we say, reluctant ones across. But I'm slightly different, all Necromancers are half Witch, half Spirit of the dead, they never ever get the powers of witchcraft though. Except me, I'm a Necro with powers. All in all, I'm a bit of a freak.
He's about to reply when someone walks in,
'Sup guys?' Calum asks. I turn round and give him a hug,
'Hey man, how were your holidays?' I ask,
'Yeah they were pretty good.' He tells me,
'But I missed this place.'
'Yeah same.' I say, he turns to Michael,
'Hi Mike.'
'Hi Cal.' He replies hugging him as well, just as Luke walks in.
'Lukey!' We all shout, jumping on him.
'Ow.'
'You know you love us.' Calum tells him.
'Yeah, you think that.' He replies, groaning as we climb off him.
'What've you been up to?' I ask,
'Oh nothing much, I've just been to talk with my uncle about sharing a timetable with Elsa.' Oh right, I should've mentioned, Luke's uncle is the headmaster. He can pretty much do anything around school as long as it isn't dangerous or illegal. Oh, and Elsa is his girlfriend.
'You two still together then?' Calum asks,
'Yeah we're doing great.' He says, grinning.
'Ohh! Lukey and Elsa sitting in a tree, K-I-S-S-I-N-' Calum starts singing.
'Oh shut up.' Luke says, still grinning though.
'C'mon we should unpack,' I say,
'Dinner's in a bit.'
••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
'Welcome to another year at the Academy.' Luke's uncle says,
'For some of you,' He looks at the table next to ours, where the eighteen and nineteen year olds sit,
'This is your last year here, you will be finishing school and perusing a life in the art of Necromancy. And for some,' He turns to the table of twelve and thirteen year olds,
'Your journey is just beginning. Here you will learn, not only to use your powers, but to control them and use them wisely as well. I hope you enjoy this school year, now enjoy your meal.' He sits down and we all start to eat.
I slump down on my bed, stuffed.
'Why?' I ask, 'Why do I eat so much?'
'Cause your an idiot.' Luke states, walking out of the bathroom, a toothbrush in his mouth.
'I think you're right.' I tell him, pulling my pyjamas out of my bag and putting them on.
'I'm always right.' He says, grinning.
'Suuuurre.' I say, I grab my own toothbrush and walk to the bathroom, placing it under the stream of water coming from the tap and cleaning my teeth.
As I walk out, Michael says,
'Do you guys want to go down to the woods tomorrow night and practice raising or something? We could try and find that dog Luke's uncle buried before last term ended.' I consider it as I climb into bed,
'Yeah, I'm up for it.' I say,
'What about you guys?' I ask, turning to Calum and Luke.
'Sure.'
'Okay.'
'Awesome.' I say,
'Now come on, we should get some sleep. Lessons start at nine tomorrow and we need to be up early.'
'Yeah okay.' Calum says, he and Luke get into their beds and as I pull the covers up, I grin slightly. I'm back where I belong, I'm home.
