Chapter 3
Tamra’s POV (still)
This can’t be happening! I’m happy that I found my mate, finally something to look forward to. I know I am going to have a soft spot for my family, well my new family. The family I left behind is no longer my family. My family now consists of me, my mate, and his pack.
‘Our pack, Tam,’ I heard Colin’s voice say in my head.
‘Would you quit eavesdropping?’
‘Not when I see your beautiful face contorted in disgust like that. I have to know what’s going through that wonderful mind of yours.’
‘Oh quit sucking up to me. I’m not going to mate with you when I hardly know you. Your thoughtful words are not going to speed up the process.’ I looked over to see Colin sitting on a bench, across from me, with his arms crossed over his chest and a scowl set on his face. I smiled a small smile and shook my head, ‘I think you will live.’
I got up from the bench I was sitting on, and started walking around the backyard. I couldn’t help but admire its beauty and watch the other pack members talk and play.
It was nothing like this back at my other pack. I was always stuck in the house, whenever I were to go outside no one was in sight and it was always dark out. The only time I was allowed outside was to train with my father. I hardly ever got to interact with anyone from that pack. My life was sheltered, but the only thing I actually got to do was go to high school for a couple of days and see how it was. Did I get to go alone? No, I had my father with me and that didn’t settle well with the other students. I almost got into a couple of fights but of course my father withdrew me from the school immediately and I became an online student next day. The only time I would have someone to “talk” to would be when fake girls would approach me. They would say that they would want to be my friends, get to know me. Come to find out they only try to be nice to me is because they know my true identity and that means they want to use me for themselves; they also wanted to get close to my father.
Looking around and seeing all these kids play games with each other, the teenagers standing by the radio singing and dancing, and the older pack members playing chess and telling stories to the young ones, just brings happiness to Cady and me. Seeing all of this reminds me of those books or stories where everyone is happy and there is peace within the community. I guess most people would call it a Utopian Society, but if you were to ask me if I have ever seen a society like that then my answer would be, ‘I have now.’
At that moment a group of little kids that ranged from four to nine years of age ran past me. A little boy, towards the front of the group, was pushed by an older boy and he fell to the ground. He looked to be one of the youngest in the group of kids. None of the other kids stopped to help him. I quickly walked over to him and picked him up off of the ground.
“Are you okay, sweetie?” I asked him as I set him back down on his feet. The little boy has jet black hair, about four years old, and he is so cute.
He started to sob quietly with his head held low.
“Hey, are you okay?” I asked again reaching forward and lifting his head up so he can look at me.
His forest green eyes were sad, and I guess it was a “give me” because of the tears rolling down his cheeks. I wiped away the tears with my thumb.
He nodded his head in response to my question.
At this time people that were around us, stopped what they were doing to see what was going on with the little boy and me.
