How did I get myself into this situation? I am a graduate from one of the best schools in San Diego and was supposed to go make a future and a career for myself. Look at where I am now, I'm in an unfamiliar dark moist place. I am no longer the Emma Carter I once was; instead I am simply a girl known as Jennifer that is no longer pure. If God truly does exist then why am I going through so much trauma that I don't deserve?
I opened my eyes to yet again nothing. I haven't opened my eyes ever since my rape. I am too frightened and disgusted to look at myself. I have been saving myself for the moment I get married, but look at me now. I slowly sat up from the bed and instantly noticed I had been placed in a completely different room. This room wasn't as dark as the last room I had been placed in. I squinted my eyes hoping that what I was seeing was correct. Did Michael place me in a normal room because I have been behaving? Let me correct myself; because I had 'sex' with him? I slightly moved my legs to rearrange myself, but felt an instant pain coming from my right leg. I tried not to scream so I don't attract any attention and yanked the covers off on me and instantly saw a bright pink cast on my leg.
"How?" I whispered to myself. I closed my eyes and tried to remember how my leg must have broken and that was when I remembered when Michael first dragged me into the house. My right leg must have broke when he dropped me to the floor. Was I that weak? How did I not notice my leg was broken when I was in the bathrooms or getting raped? Adrenaline?
I looked around the room hoping my eyes would adjust and to my luck they did, quickly. From the opposite side of the room I noticed a small source of light, I can't tell what it is exactly. I gradually moved one foot after the other and off of the bed. Both of my legs dangled off of the side of the bed and my torso followed. As my blood began to circulate around my body I instantly felt light-headed. I grasped the monitor that was attached to my IV and slowly stood up from the bed.
"I can't." I whispered in fear and pain and sat right back down. I shook my head to my left and right and decided that if I want to make it out of here alive I need to man up and do something to escape. I took in a deep breath and got back up. I bit my bottom lip to help deal with the huge amount of pain that was coming from my side and my leg and walked towards the light. The monitor rolled on behind me as I became less dependent on the machine. When I finally reached the blurry light I reached out towards it and felt an instant heat. My eyes soon focused making me realize that the light was a lava lamp. I analyzed the lamp and watched the insides move around. The lava was a bright pink just like my cast.
"You are coming with me." I grabbed the bottom of my gown and held the lava lamp with the gown so I wouldn't burn myself. I walked around the room with the lava lamp as far as I could and soon found a feminine flashlight that happened to also be pink with flowers on it. "Great." I mumbled. I quickly snatched the flashlight and placed the lava lamp back on the shelf where I had found it. In a way I was setting myself up for complete suicide since I have no idea where to go. I turned the flashlight on and noticed the room.
The room had clean white walls with white furniture with a mix of pink. For a second it felt as if I was in a real room, but as soon as my pain came back to me I remembered why I got up in the first place, for Bella. This room was easier to escape since it had an actual door with a knob, I grasped my right hand around the door knob and readied myself for what I could face outside of this door. I slowly opened the door and held the flashlight ahead of me and brought the monitor along with me. I closed the door slowly behind me to make sure I wouldn't make any noises and flashed the light to both the right and the left. I looked over to the right and noticed the hallway looked shorter and chose to go that way.
As I walked down the hallway I made sure to not trip over my IV so I wrapped the extra wire around my wrist and held the monitor close to me so it wouldn't fall over due to any unevenness in the wooden floors. I continued to walk down the hall slowly and carefully and heard a distant noise from down the hall behind me. I froze in my tracks and turned off the flashlight. I began to breath faster and quicker scared that it was Michael behind me. I looked behind me and realized the monitor light was still on, I played with the buttons frantically and managed to dim the brightness. I stood there for a few seconds that felt like minutes and nothing happened. I turned back around to continue walking and switched the flashlight back on.
Once I reached the end of the hallway I came in tact with a set of stairs. The staircase spiraled to the left leaving me in complete suspense. I took a deep breath and knew I had to keep going to try and either escape or find Bella. At this point I can't stick around and wait for her. I need to survive. If I find her then we will escape together, but otherwise, if I find an escape first I will take my chances and leave. The walk down to the next floor was indeed the hardest of all. Both my side and leg were aching in sharp pains and holding the monitor, flashlight, and my balance was hard enough. By the time I reached the next floor I realized I must have been in the main living area. Straight ahead of me was the kitchen and...
"Another staircase?" I whispered. I quickly walked towards the staircase and before walking down I looked around to make sure I wasn't walking past the front door. The only door I laid eyes on must had been a patio door. If it comes down to it, I guess I will just jump. This staircase was exactly the same way, but spiraled to the right which made it both harder and easier. By this time I got too eager and impatient and quickened my pace and was now practically running throughout this foreign house.
"What the fuck?" I hissed in complete irritation. This floor was almost exactly the same, but no kitchen and instead a few doors. "This can't be it." I whispered in excitement. I spotted the front door and ran up to it. I looked down at the door knob then all the way up to the peep hole, the only thing I didn't have were the keys to the set of locks on the door. I sighed in disappointment and leaned my back against the front door and looked around for another solution. "Where can Bella be? Where are you?" I asked the empty room. The room was completely quiet until I heard a small faint beep just like the monitor, the only difference? I had muted mine. I listened to the sounds and followed the noises that led me to a big wooden door. I put my hand on the knob and noticed the lock above the handle had been left unlocked. I slowly opened the door and followed the staircase that was directly behind it.
This was the last area of the house. I knew it. By the time I reached the bottom of the stairs I felt an instead cold breeze. This must be his basement. I moved my feet off the stairs and onto the cold unsettling marble and followed the dark mysterious hallway all the way down. I looked to my left and right and noticed the exact cement doors I saw the other day. What is this place? I walked past the cement doors and soon spotted glass doors. I leaned against the glass and shone light through them and saw nothing, but what looked like hospital operating rooms. This can't be..I closed my eyes and remembered being thrown onto a flat surface and hearing a voice mention an operating room. I quickly walked farther down the hallway and there were more glass doors. I looked to my left and thought it was another empty operating room, but instead it was a hospital room with..
"Bella." I mumbled low enough that it was hard for myself to hear my own voice. Bella was there on a hospital bed with what looked like hundreds of wires and IV's, but there was something off about this. I then heard a low whimper coming from inside Bella's room. I quickly turned off the flashlight and realized Michael was sitting right next to her bed crying. I covered my mouth with my left hand and slowly backed away. What do I do? I looked around and tried to think of a way to escape, but there was nothing. I quickly turned around and walked as fast as I could without making too much noise. Everything was going by perfectly until I reached the top of the staircase and forgot who was down there and accidentally slammed the wooden door behind me. My heart stopped as I turned back and realized what I had just done.
"Run Emma!" I told myself. I picked up the monitor and sprinted as fast as I could with my injuries and soon made it back on the second floor. By the time I reached the kitchen I heard the first floor door open and shut dramatically. Michael's footsteps almost instantly afterwards. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck! I went back to sprinting and finally made it back to the third floor. "Open the god damn door Emma!" I told myself repeatedly.
"Which one? Which one? Which one?" I whispered. I could hear his footsteps coming up the staircase. I opened the second door to the left and realized I made the right choice. I quietly closed the door behind me, threw the flashlight back where I had found it, and threw myself back into bed. The moment the blankets covered my body, Michael burst the door wide open exposing nothing, but darkness.
