4. A drop in the ocean

School was over and Luke and I were driving to his house.

2 hours later we were sitting on his bedroom floor just talking about everything and nothing just enjoying each other's company.

"I'm still waiting to hear you sing though."

"Oh...I guess I shouldn't keep you waiting for too long then."

He got up and walked to the window where his guitar was. Taking it he came back and sat in front of me

"What's your favorite song?"

"Voldemort by With Confidence"

"I don't know it. Give me another one."

"Gravity by With Confidence? ?" He gave me a look rising his eyebrows "I'm sorry. I've been quite obsessed with this band lately."

"What about a song you like by another band?"

"Well..." after a minute of scrolling through my imaginary playlists I finally spoke "Do you know A drop in the ocean? "

"Yeah. It's one of my favorite songs"

"Really? "

"Really."

Did we just have a 'The fault in our stars' moment?

"I'm shook. I thought your favorite song would be like ... I don't know an old rock classic or something."

"Actually a few rock classics are on my list too" He send me a wink and played a few random cords on the guitar then stop for a second and took a deep breath starting to play an all too familiar tune. He definitely was good with the guitar I thought and that's when he started singing the lyric making me smile.

"A drop in the ocean
A change in the weather
I was praying that you and me might end up together
It's like wishing for rain as I stand in the desert
But I'm holding you closer than most 'cause you are my heaven"

He stopped and looked at me giving me a smile.

"Why did you stop?"

"You just wanted to hear me sing. You never mentioned wanting to hear a whole song"

"Are you kidding? I wanna hear a whole concert."

"Maybe someday. But right now I need an answer." He put the guitar next to him and looked at me again."Will you be my partner?"

"Yes."

"Cool"

"So... are we singing a cover?" I asked

"I was actually thinking of an original song."

"Do you already have an idea in mind?"

"No. But... I have a notebook full of songs."

"You're writing songs?"

"Sometimes."

"Is there something you can't do?"

"Apparently you."

I think at the begging he didn't quite catch what he said but seconds later his face went red.

"What?" I asked feeling my face turn red as well

"What? Oh my God no, I'm sorry. I don't know why I said it. Sorry"

He get up the bed and went to his desk grabbing a notebook and gave it to me.

"Here, you can check them out. "

I opened the pages of it and started reading the lyrics of the songs. They were very good. I was impressed.

"They are awesome."

"You like them?"

"Yes, I do!"

"Okay. Which one would you like us to sing?"

"I think we should use 'Never be'."

Another hour passed and Luke was playing the song so i can learn it when his phone rang.

"Excuse me, but i gotta get this one"he said and exit the room not leaving me time to respond

Few minutes later he came back. He looked worried.

"Is everything okay?"

"Yeah. Look I have to go somewhere for a little bit. Can we finish this tomorrow?"

"Yeah , of course."

"Okay. I'll drive you home and..."

"No. You don't have to. I'll walk"

"But..."

"Luke... seriously. Something is obviously bothering you at the moment. Go take care of it."

"Are you sure? It's kinda late. I don't want anything to happen to you"

"I'll be fine."

After spending the next few minutes assuring Luke I'll be fine and no one is going to kidnap me or something I collected my things and left his house.
