Chapter 8

I got into the car and buckled up. I finished my post on Instagram and surprisingly watched it get ten likes. Wow. It was pretty quiet for a few minutes. Logan drove and I sat staring at my phone. I started following Kendall, James, and Carlos, and Dustin. Logan doesn’t have an Instagram; he needs one. I also followed Demi Lovato and a few other accounts as well.

“Why don’t you have an Instagram?” I asked Logan as I scrolled through the popular page; half of the pictures were of Justin Bieber, shirtless, and making some stupid face-oh wait he’s expressionless; it’s just his stupid face in general. Logan didn’t reply, he just kept his eyes on the road. “Okay then…” He wasn’t talking to me; that was weird. I tried something else. “Where are we going?”

               “To get dinner,” he said.

“I thought you said you had a surprise for me. What’s so great about food?”

“Not the food, the company,” he said with grin; eyes still locked on the road.

“Can you at least tell me where we’re going to eat?” I asked him.

“Hole-In-The-Wall Burger Joint,” he said with a smile. I was excited, we had passed by there the other day and it was screaming at me. I love small, little places like that.

We parked a little ways down the street and walked to the burger stand. There were a few people in line, not very many though. Logan walked up behind a girl who was wearing a black knit-hat, I think her hair was blue, maybe purple-I couldn’t tell in the dim lighting. He wrapped his arms around her torso and said, “Hey.”

She jumped but then started laughing. I know that laugh. I started to get jittery on the inside. Demi turned around to face Logan, a smile on her face. She gave him a hug. Then she noticed me. “So you must be Addie,” she said excitedly, “I’m so happy to finally meet you in person!”

I stood there with my mouth open, jaw almost to the ground, as I stared at her. It was Demi Lovato in the flesh, and she was talking to me. “She’s a little star-struck right now,” Logan said with a chuckle.

“Well there’s no reason to be,” she said giving me a hug, “I’m just another person you’d see walking down the street.”

“Yeah except for the fact that you’re Demi Lovato, THE Demi Lovato,” I replied.

Demi did that famous laugh of hers as she began to reply, “Yeah, I guess I am.” She smiled sweetly and we began to make small talk. There was nothing heavy about the air now and everything was light and happy. We got our food and sat down at one of the tables.

For being a trashy looking burger stand this place sure made great food. After a few minutes of excited chatter and eating I started feeling tired. Today was a big day, a lot of things happened. I wanted to get into bed and try to sleep but there was a mess at home I needed to clean up-and I’d had enough drama for one day.

I lay my head on the table and close my eyes. Demi placed a hand on top of my head and gently placed with my hair, “Are you tired?” she asked me.

               “Mm-hm,” I said in a quiet voice.

I couldn’t see Demi’s face but I know there was some sort of smile as she was talking to Logan. “I think it’s time that you guys get home.”
