Harry's POV

I stumbled slightly on a slick path of mud that led straight into the woods, and I looked around quickly. The rain was soaking my hair and making the curls flop into my eyes so I had to keep constantly pushing them out of my vision. My chest heaved slightly as I hurried up one of the various hills that were all throughout the woods, and around the house despite the fact that I knew Jessie wouldn't use them. She would have wanted a straight path in these woods because it would have been the quickest to get away. I just felt that if I was higher up I could have a better view of down below and that I might be able to actually spot her.

I cupped my hands around my mouth. "Jessie! Jessie, where are you?" I yelled as loud as I could over the down pour above me.

Nothing responded, and I hoped that was because she couldn't hear me.

"Jessie, please! You'll die out here!" I yelled a bit more frantically, but I was yet again left with no response.

I ran my fingers messily through my curls while I looked around for any sign of the girl I'd been falling for. The rain was slowly but surely dying down and that made me relax a bit. However, I knew that just because the rain was stopping didn't mean that Jessie was safe. It's an extremely cold winter day in these woods, and she left the house without shoes or a jacket. She could easily have frozen to death in just these few minutes, so I needed to act fast.

My heart thumped in my chest as I walked closer to the edge of the hill top, but I was careful not to get to close as it would have given way. I bit my lip roughly and squinted through the countless rain drops that were still falling. Where the hell could she be? She couldn't have gotten this far, I thought to myself.

I slowly walked down the hill and once I reached solid ground I looked down at the forest floor. What I saw made my heart leap in my chest. Barefoot prints, fresh ones, leading in this direction. I frowned slightly at the foot prints were barely visible, smudged, and only showing the balls of her feet. I knew that meant to show just how desperately she was trying to get away.

I shook off the thought of it and hurried along with the foot prints, but they soon began to fade all together, almost as if she vanished into thin air. My hands cupped around my mouth once again and I was just about to start screaming her name whenever I began to hear a voice just over the rain. I strained my ears desperately to hear it.

"I'm sorry, Harry. I-If I..die..die..out here...I just want to make sure that you know that..I think I might love you. I don't know yet..it's..all happening to fast, but just know that I care for you, and about you...and that won't change...no matter..what.."

I could barely hear what was being said, and I knew it was Jessie, but it didn't sound like her. It was flat and almost numb.

"Jessie!" My voice rang out and I quickly looked around while squinting in the rain. Right then and there my heart almost stopped in my chest as I saw her.

Jessie was laying flat on her side with her hair in her face. Her eyes were closed, her skin was deathly pale, and she wasn't moving.

"God..no.." I ran my fingers through my hair out of shock before I ran over to her unconscious form. "Jessie? Jessie, you have to wake up!" I began shaking her and moving her hair from her face. "Jessie..Jessie, please don't leave me.." I begged her.

She didn't move or respond.

I pressed my head against her chest and the sound of her heart beating was all it took for me to scoop her up into my arms and begin running back toward the house. Thankfully, she was only about two minutes away from the opening into the field.
