It was a cold December morning. It was near Christmas and I was thinking about what to buy my friends for Christmas. I wanted to have a day out in the snow with my squad but I didn't know when or if I had time. I wasn't going home for Christmas. My mum sent me a letter saying I had a choice. I knew my brothers were staying at Hogwarts over Christmas and I knew all my friends were too so I decided to stay. I looked out of the dormitory window and saw Hagrid dragging a giant tree into the castle.
"Blimey!" Luna said "that's a big Christmas tree."
I nodded in agreement and looked out of another window.

A girl.

Coming towards the castle.

A very pretty girl too.

Quite tall, eyes as blue as the summer sky. Golden blonde hair bouncing in its curled way. Sweet little aqua shade glasses with a black rim.

Black Hogwarts robes already on. A yellow scarf meaning she was in Hufflepuff.

I jogged down the stairs to the common room. I always feel calmed by the different shades of blue on the walls and the silver seats.

Something seemed different today. Usually everyone is quiet doing their homework but everyone was talking. I hear my name several times in different conversations along with Malfoy, my dad and Austin. As I step off the bottom step people lower into whispers. I get a few looks but the Ravenclaws are clever. They don't make it obvious that they were talking about you. Unlike the Gryffindors. I see Ashley in the corner looking guilty. I give her a disappointed look.

I grab my coat and bag and walk quickly out of the room and towards the great hall for breakfast. I'm an hour early so I walk around the grounds.

My eyes start to sting. They start to fill with tears. My visions gets blurry.

I turn a corner and nearly walk into someone. She nearly jumped out of her skin.
"Omg" I say shocked "I'm sorry it's my fault. I wasn't looking..." I look down. I try to get past but she blocks my way.
"Um. Don't worry about it. It was no ones fault. The wall was there and we both came round the corner at the same time." Her voice was beautiful. Her tone was so calm. I smiled. "What is your name?" She asked me.
"I'm Jana. Pureblood. What's your name?" I say sniffing away my tears.
"I'm Emily. That's my middle name, I prefer to be called it. Why are you crying?" She looks down confused at me.
"People talk about me. My best friend was with them. I felt betrayed. My friend has something to hide and people are nosey little shits and want to know. I don't even know and I'm his best friend. I was just on my way down to breakfast. Do you want to walk with me?" I ask changing the subject.

"That would be wonderful Jana. You need some company right now. If your best friend is being mean then I can be a good fill in." She states plainly.
"Why don't you be my new friend. If my squad like you then I want you to stay. Even if they don't I'm still going to hang out with you. You're really sweet and pretty. I like you." I tell her. "What's your blood status?"
"I'm a half blood." She looks at my hands. "I like your nail polish. It goes with your eyes." A small smile appears on her face. I feel one tugging at the corner of my lips too. Within seconds we end up laughing and talking like old friends. Some people just click. I think we did.

I didn't realise until I sat down at breakfast. She was the girl in Hufflepuff that I saw this morning. The golden blonde curls bouncing. The really nice glasses.

I'd just made friends with the new girl. Not just the new girl. The pretty new girl. I really want my other friends to like her.

Today was Saturday and I wanted to shop for Christmas presents. I found Emily and we went to find lots of presents. She got chocolate for everyone because she didn't really know them. I got Ashley a necklace, Austin a unicorn phone case, Luna a pass for a subscription to her favourite magazine and Olly a chocolate orange and matching key rings. They were little hearts with bells on. They jingled when one was in trouble.

Emily was a very likeable character. My friends liked her. I was glad about that.

It's Christmas Day soon. I'm so excited for the feast.
