Chapter Five
BOY BAND AUDITION
"So."
Simon Cowell said studying them one by one.
The five of them arrived at the sent address on time, no minute earlier or later. It is their mission to impress Simon whatever it takes.
"You are 'them'. What Cheryl said as the next generation boy band, correct?"
Louis, thinking this is just Simon's way of sizing them up, decided to answer for the group.
"Yes." he said, confident bordering cocky. Simon nodded.
"You've got the looks." he said, looking at them once more. "But can you sing?"
"Let us try." Harry said, if he's nervous, he's not showing it.
" Alright. The floor is yours."
Now, they're in the hardest part of the mission. They know impressing Simon will not gonna be an easy feat. They've seen how many he rejected in cold blood. They need to pass the Cowell standard.
"Amuse me." Simon said in cue for them to start.
With no time to prepare and lack of technology advancement of this age, they decided to do acapella. But choosing the appropriate song to perform 's what's left them debating. But being the starter, it was up to Liam to decide.
Day after day
Time passed away

Liam started, choosing the song in hope to amuse Simon. But his expression remained stoic...if anything, he looked quite bored, and that was not a good thing.
The courage to show

They all sang in chorus but Simon still remained stoic, watching them then back to his watch, as if they're actually holding him off.
"Okay. Stop." Simon finally said, before they can even finish the chorus. "That's it. You can stop right there."
They all stopped, frozen in fact where they stood. That tone, it can't be good. Simon didn't like it a bit.
"Now I respect that you like Westlife, boys, and that you chose to sing their song, I get it. But when Cheryl said I'll be seeing the next boy band I did expect something great from you. I don't need another Westlife. No, I already got one and that is enough. What I need for you is to take another direction besides West. I'm sorry to say this but I just think you're not ready yet to step in on this business. Do meet me some other time when you're finally ready to take another direction."
Simon stood up and was meaning to leave. Liam felt like shite. They have one chance to prove themselves to Simon and they blew it. Well, he blew it. It was his call to choose the right song but now he failed them. He can see the rest of them dispirited with Simon's words. Liam doesn't know how much time they have left in this time or that if they're gonna get a chance to meet Simon again, so he needed to do something. Something to make Simon turn around.
