Chapter Two – Miscommunication

"Oh thank God you're here!" I jump from the couch and pull Jess into a big hug. "The boys, they just left me all alone in this house and didn't even say when they'd be home." I explain frustrated.

"Hey you too, so where are they?" she asked confused.

"Oh you know one of those stupid after parties, they are meant for celebrating but everyone knows they are just to get drunk and hook up with the sluts of our school." I say with an eye roll. Jess nods her head in agreement

"Please don't tell me we are doing anything fancy tonight, because look at me," she says pointing to her trackies and tank top, topped off with her purple ugg boots.

"yeah no, was thinking the usual?" I reply

"Yeah of course, junk food and goofy movies," she finishes for me

"Yup you got it!"

I walk into the kitchen and grab some snacks as Jess runs upstairs and puts her stuff in my room like normal. Opening the fridge, I find a bottle of coke, I grab it out and grab two glasses from the cabinet and place them on the bench.

I open the cupboard in hope to find the packet of chips I left bought for tonight, but am not surprised to find they've been eating, most likely by Aaron or Nate.

"Ugh Jess!" I yell out.

"Yeah?" she asks making her way down the staircase.

"I got no chips, bloody boys have eaten them again!" I explain, an annoyed expression sitting on my face.

"OMG not again, I'm going to kill those two!" she screams, her hands waving in the air

"Well I guess we have to work to the shops then?" I suggest.

Jess nods her head and we leave the kitchen. I run and grab my purse and slide my ugg boots onto my awkward feet.

"Its fucking cold," Jess explains pulling her jumper closer around her as we walk down the pathway. "Can we please leave and go to bali? Thailand? Somewhere warmer than here, anywhere warmer than here."

"Seems very, very tempting, but I sadly have a math's test on Monday, can I take a raincheck?" I say with a smirk. Jess gives me the finger, a blank expression on her face.

"You and your loyalty to school, fuck that for a joke, I like living too much," she explains

We make it to the corner store, its dark and there are only a few cars parked awkwardly in the car park. The ding of the bell rings through my eyes as we enter into the supermarket. The place is small and remote, only known to locals.

"So we need chips, lollies, anything else?" I ask

"Smokes, booze?" Jess asks without a care in the world.

I'm stunned by Jess's response. "Jess! WTF no! you know how much I'm against underage drinking, and don't even get me started on smoking!" Jess rolls her eyes and gives me a smile.

"I'll be back; I'm just going to get some more coke!" Jess says before running of towards the drink isle.

I make my way to the chip aisle. The aisle is stocked with every chip flavor you could imagine, same goes with the lollies. I grab a packet of Doritos and some skittles; my favorites. Jess isn't back yet, so I pick up the skittles and walk down the aisle, staring at the very unhealthy nutrition information on the packet.

Bump

Ouch.

"I'm so sorry! I wasn't looking where I was going! My Bad!" the rough voice speaks.

I make eye contact with the weird stranger in front of me, and wish I hadn't. Those eyes, those dark brown eyes stare back at me with so much intensity, I begin to melt. There before me stands a boy. A boy that looks similar age to me. A boy with ashy blonde hair. There before me stands the most attractive male from the entire male species I've laid eyes upon to date.

It's then that I remember I've been staring and haven't yet replied. You're a stupid idiot Lily. "Um, yeah, uh, yeah its ok, I wasn't looking either, sorry," I reply shyly.

The boy looks at me with a smile and chuckles. "I'm Seth Peterson." He says, introducing himself.

"Uh hi," I say still transposed by the male in front of me. He looks at me weirdly and smiles. "Oh shit, sorry, I'm Lily!"

"Hi lily," he reply's smoothly. I don't know what else to say, well what else to you say to a stranger that's extremely out of your league? And to top it off I'm in trackies, and ugg boots...great. So I say, "do you live here? I know most of the people in this small town and I don't think I've seen your face before."

"Yeah that would be right. I'm new, my family just moved here from Kurumba." The words leave his mouth so nicely, I could listen to him talk all day.

"Lily where the fuck are you?" I hear Jess shout. Oh god, this is your cue to leave Lily! I tell myself.

Before I can make an even bigger fool of myself I say goodbye to the very attractive stranger named Seth, and head of to find Jess. I find Jess in line at the counter. I rush to pay for our things, and get us out of the shop as fast as possible. Jess would of made things awkward between Seth and I, and that wouldn't of been pretty hard, considering how embarrassing that ordeal had just been.

"Why you rushing me?" jess laughs as we pace down the footpath.

"No reason," I reply.

"oh my god, there so was, did you meet a hot guy or something?" Jess jokes. I don't reply. "Oh you did, didn't you?!" she questions. I still don't reply, but turn to her with a smile. "You are telling me every single detail when we get home!" she demands.

A ding of a phone breaks our one-way conversation, and I check to see I have 10 missed calls from Aaron, and 22 text messages.

WHERE ARE YOU?!

ARE YOU OK?!

LILY REPLY TO ME!!

I calm down Aaron by responding saying we were just around the corner, and that we left to pick up some food.

"I want every detail!" jess says as I place my phone back in my pocket

Well.
