I walk the halls, like any other day, anger and confusion, a mixture of thoughts seething inside me.
Seth, the new, and seductively attractive football player makes his way past me, a smile and wave forming. I return the favour, but the feelings not there, my mind is somewhere else, somewhere it shouldn't be; it's on Nate. The way he reacted last night when Seth walked up to me was odd, unfamiliar and created an uneasy feeling inside of me. He made me feel guilty for giving my number to Seth. I don't know why I felt it, but it was evidently there.
In calculus, Jess pounds me about the "new guy" wanting to know every single thing about him. But the truth was, I didn't know much, just about as much as her, plus his number.
"I only know as much as you do, Jess, you know that!" I tell her with a smile, my hand lightly smacking her shoulder
"Yeah sure you do" she huffs "I saw the way he looked at you this morning just before" she explains "Something is defiantly up." I roll my eyes. I didn't know what to say, nothing was going on...right?
Throughout calculus my mind isn't where it should be; instead its back to thinking about Nate, and the way he's been acting, its odd, and it surely isn't the Nate I'm used to. He is normally so care free, lately he's been acting strange, angry and sad, but then he still has a girl around his arms every 5 minutes so I don't know what his problem is.
Calculus dragged on, and so did my questions in regards to Nate, but I'd have to push them to the back of my mind for later, and focus on the day ahead.
The bell rang for lunch, and the students exited the classroom as fast as lightning, I didn't blame them; calculus was the most boring class there was.
"Hey, you were pretty quiet during the lesson, you ok?" jess asks as we make our way to our lockers.
"Yeah I'm fine, just confused about some things, but don't worry about me, I'm fine." I reassure her with a huge smile.
"Ok good! Well I'm gonna go put my books away and ill meet you in the cafeteria?" jess asks. I nod with a smile and continue my way to my locker.
From a distance I could make out a figure standing at my locker. Their build was strong, tall and they appeared to be male. The looked like they were there on a mission, waiting for someone. I quickened my pace, to see the person standing at my locker, and of course my luck proved it to be no one another than Nate Magnusson. Great....
"What are you doing?" I ask him curiously, with a hint of a tone.
"No need for the tone missy, I'm simply waiting for my beautiful girlfriend to put her books away and accompany me to lunch." Ummm what now?
"I'm not your girlfriend, nor will I ever be!!" I tell him
"Oh, stop pretending you are not head over heels in love with me." He concludes
"Oh you have got to be joking with me" I laugh, putting my books away "you're jokes are funny, but your lies are crap Nate, get over yourself" and with that I walk away, in search for Jess in the cafeteria.
What the hell just happened now?
Seriously that boy, switches moods like a two-bobbed watch. Me, his girlfriend? My stomach almost caved in at the thought. I seriously did not understand that boy.
"What took you so long?" Jess asks curiously with a smirk.
"Nate is what happened."
"oooo he is so hot, you are so lucky for a boy to be in love with you like that," he explains dreamily.
"Oh yuck, nothing, I repeat nothing is going on, and ever will be!"
"Ok, ok now don't go getting your knickers in a twist, it never hurts to be a hoe sometimes, let the leash free, get a little dirty with him, if you know what I'm saying," jess says as she wrinkles her eyebrows up and down, and sways her body side to side.
I look around in complete embarrassment and hold her sides, in order for her to stop from further embarrassing the both of us. She rolls her eyes at me, and laughs.
"Shut up"
"You love me," she giggles
"Unfortunately," I reply, and she blows me a kiss
We spend most of lunch chatting about random stuff, Jess's family, my family and her addiction for my brother. Those two I swear will end up married one day.
"Um Lily?" jess whispers
"mmm?" I question looking up from my novel
"Seth Peterson, is um making his way over her." My eyes widen, and I quickly check to make sure my hair was in order and nothing was in my teeth.
And sure enough just as I turned around, the sweet and breathtaking Seth smiles and waves at me as he nears.
Act cool Lily, act cool
"Um Hey Seth!" I say a little too chirpily. God dammit
"Hey, um I mean Hi Lily! How are you?" he asks shyly rubbing his hand against his neck for security. I've never seen a jock act this shy before, he was nervous, and nervous was very cute on him.
"I'm good thanks! Just you know.... eating lunch," I point to my half-eaten sandwich. Oh, dear Lily you are so bad at making conversation
"Oh yeah cool! So um, I was wondering well hoping you'd come to the after party after the game on Friday night?" um come again, me?
"Ummm" I didn't know what to say, what the hell should I say. "ahhhs"
"She'd love to go!" Jess replies for me. I turn my head and glare at her, she smiles in return.
"That's great! Well Jess you should come too, but that's great that you'll be there Lily!" he smiles, oh those perfect white teeth could make anyone's heart melt. "I guess I'll see you then" and with that he walks off, a new hop to his step.
I turn back to Jess, she laughs and all I do is put my head to the table in defeat.
