Chapter Three – Complete embarrassment

The halls are crowded, filled with noise and news about people's weekends. A typical Monday morning occurrence. I walk the halls quietly and quickly, careful not to make eye contact with anyone who I thought would cause trouble. So pretty much everyone, but the odd few nerds who thought of me as a normal person. Bloom by the paper Kites blares through my headphones and relaxes my anxiety.

I smile and wave at Jess as I pass her locker, and make my way down to my locker. I'm lucky enough to have a locker at the end of an aisle, meaning I don't have to awkwardly make small talk with anyone on the left of me, because we all know how well that went on Friday night, don't we?

Grabbing my books, I make my way to English...oh how I despise English, my teacher is an absolute a**hole. Always making us do extra homework, which is completely unnecessary, he is always saying "you have to stretch your brain!". Well Mr. Boyd, I'm sure if you are aware or not.... probably not because you're an actual idiot, but our brains cannot stretch by reading the da Vinci code!

English was boring as I presumed. Now we have to sit through an hour long assembly! Oh how fun that sounds! Can you see my sarcasm? Yes, I am a very sarcastic person.

I met Jess at her locker, we continue to walk together to the gym, where the assembly's take place.

"I hate assembly's," expresses Jess.

"Same, let's ditch?" I suggest with a smirk. Jess looks at me and laughs, I join in. Of course we wouldn't ditch, we never ditched.

We take our seats at the side of the bleaches up the top, away from everyone else. I see Aaron and Nate walk in with the rest of their gross jock friends. They try clapping hands with the teachers, but the teachers keep their straight faces and ignore their gestors.... Lol suckers. They go take their usual spots in the middle of the bleaches next to the cheerleading squad; typical boys.

"Attention" yells the evil Principle Maddison. Everyone is quick to quiet down, no body, I repeat nobody steps above the level of principle Maddison. If you did, you wouldn't be seen around anymore. Immediate expulsion.

"Throughout todays assembly we will be awarding our top Math students with certificates. Our leading sportsmen with appreciation awards, and lastly we will be running through some events occurring in the next few weeks," Principle Maddison finalizes.

The assembly drags on and on, I can feel myself fall into unconsciousness, I really should have gone to bed earlier. My eyes open and close, open and close and my focus on the head of math's is very minimal until I hear my name called out. I look at jess for confirmation and she nods, my name really got called out.

"Lily Andrews, can you please come down and collect your award for your participation in the mathlets," Mrs. Anderson says with a smile.

I awkwardly make my way down the stairs and to the podium. I feel everyone's intense eyes staring at me as I take the award from the beaming teacher and leave the stage.

"NERD!" shouts Nate, as I leave the stage. People laugh, and some of nates friends high five him. All the air suddenly feels tight, my chest hurts and I can't breathe; my anxiety is in full form. My face is blood red, and I want to cry.

As I quickly take the last couple of steps of the stage, I look Nate directly in the eye, and see pure regret when his eyes meet mine. Something I haven't seen before. I look away and run, locking myself in the bathroom.

I can hear someone burst through the door. "Lily! Lily are you ok!?" Jess questions frantically. "Nate is such a jerk!"

I don't answer, instead I open the door and look up at her, my eyes puffy from crying and my breathing labored, slowly returning to normal. "He says things without thinking! And he knows about my anxiety, he is so selfish!" I explain slowly. Jess nods her head.

"Do you wanna ditch next period and just hang out here to calm down?" suggests Jess. I can't believe I was nodding; I was going to ditch. Me, Lily Andrews was going to ditch. But I didn't care, not now anyway.

"Let's at least go hide out in the library, unless you're into this bathroom shit?" Jess teases. I roll my eyes and chuckle. This girl always knows how to make me smile and laugh, oh how I am grateful for such an amazing best friend.

"I know I don't say it enough, but you're amazing!" I tell Jess, making my way over to the door.

"Aww I love you!" she smiles "now let's go before bloody principle Maddison gets on her broom and comes to find us, oh how I hate that women."

We make our way down the now quiet hall and sneak into the library. We walk to the back corner of the library and take our usual seats. We seat here most lunches, and tend to spend our free periods here also, it's very convenient.

"Hey are you ever going to tell me about that guy from the store?" jess asks "yeah, don't think I forgot, well I did forget once we got back to yours because Aaron and Nate were annoying us, but I have just remembered!"

"Ahh maybe, I don't know, he wasn't even that special, yeah he was cute but, he was so out of my league, like way out of my league," I explain.

"you put yourself down too much Lily, you're gorgeous!" Jess explains.

I shake my head, disagreeing, I'm not that pretty, defiantly not pretty enough for someone that looked like Seth.
