Chapter Four – You again

"Hey Lil, are you staying back after school tonight while your brothers at football practice?" Jess asks, whilst replacing her English textbook, with her biology textbook.

"Unfortunately," I reply

"It might not be that unfortunate, I heard there's some new meat on that team, he apparently tried out yesterday and got in, his first trainings tonight!" Jess explains

"Yeah but you know, everyone's the same; amazingly hot, but a complete jerk," I finish.

"Yeah, I guess you're right," Jess says in defeat. "But I'm gonna stay back and keep you company tonight anyway, but right now I better run before I'm late to bio! Love ya," she says, then makes her way down the corridor.

I slowly make my way to my next class; AP Chemistry. I love this class with a passion, I feel smart, needed and wanted in this class. It's the year above me. However, there's a downside to being in a class above me, as this AP class of course has no other than Nate Magnusson in it. He may be a complete jackass but he's smart, I'll give him that.

However, he still always contributes to being a complete disturbance to the class, never studies, yet passes, and nearly aces every damn test! It generally gets on my nerves.

After school, I meet Jess at the bleaches and we take a seat. Whenever Jess stays with me when Aaron has football practice, I spend some time growing through her Maths with her. As I'm explaining the general equation for quadratic functions I see a familiar face in the corner of my eye. Jess sees my confusion and follows my gaze.

"Mhm I told you there was some new meat on the team, and some very divine looking meat shall I add," Jess says slowly as her eyes gaze upon the person I'm still shocked to see.

Jess recognizes my shock, and gives me a questioning look. "What's wrong? Do you know the Mr. Hottie over there?" she jokes. I don't reply, because I do, I do in fact know who that "Mr. hottie" is; It's Seth. Supermarket Seth.

"Supermarket Seth," I whisper.

"Supermarket Seth?" Jess replies confused. I give her a look. "Omg! Supermarket Seth! The one and the only, Supermarket Seth!"

I quiet Jess down, and we both watch as Seth makes his way over to the group. Some give him high fives, and others the typical boy clap on the back, and some just look over him, questioning his every move. One of these boys being Nate. He stares at Seth, stares at him as if he's competition, something he did regularly with everyone.

We hear him introduce himself to the group as "Seth Peterson" What a nice last name I think to myself.

"Hey Hot stuff" Jess shouts, oh lord what the hell Jess. My eyes budge with embarrassment. Jess looks at me and smiles, no care or emotion shown on her face; just a smile, and one of satisfaction.

The team must of heard Jess' shouting as they were all now looking up at us in the bleaches. Nate just laughed, so did Aaron and most of the team did so also.

Yet Seth looked confused then realization exploded on his face as his eyes made contact with mine, then a small smile started form. He then proceeded to start waving frantically at me, so I awkwardly waved back.

"Hey Lily, long time no see!" Seth shouts. I give out an awkward laugh. "yeah long time!" I reply. "Can we talk after?" he asks, I smile and nod.

Nate has the weirdest expression plasted on his face. One of confusion, one of anger, and one of...wait...jealously? His eyes dart between Seth and eye, as he tries to come to a conclusion of the scenario playing out before him. Whereas Aaron focus on the whole ordeal has already gone, and he is back to throwing the football around with some of the other team mates.

The awkward scene is quickly demolished due to the coach calling everyone back in for practice. Seth is quick to outplay Nate, and that's hard to do. As much as I despise the boy, he is the best in the team. I feel a pull of a heart string as I see Seth replace Nates position faster than Nate got it.

Nates eyes burn with anger and he runs laps around the field. His frustrated eyes once again make contact with mine, anger soaring through them, I can feel it. I stare back with confusion, and this only makes him run faster, disconnecting our eyes.

"What was that all about?" Jess asks

"I have no idea," I answer honestly

"Hmm, weird," she replies, he attention quickly returning to the quadratic equation sheet in front of her.

For the reminder of practice, I continue helping Jess through her homework, however my mind still wonders through what happened earlier, and Nates anger towards Seth; someone he's known barely an hour. Once we complete the homework we make our way down the bleaches and towards the car.

"Can you drop me home?" Jess asks

"Yeah sure, no worries, but we have to wait for Aaron and more likely than not, Nate as well," I reply. Jess nods with a smile.

We wait by the car for a good 15 minutes before Aaron makes his way to the car, Nate in tow. The two boys look up at Jess and I and smile. It always confuses me as to why Nate can go from being the nastiest piece of work to the nicest dorkiest boy I've met.

"Hey Lily!" yells Seth from behind the two boys as he jogs towards the car.

"Hey!" I say probably a bit too enthusiastically.

"How are you?" he asks coming up to me. By now Aaron and Nate have hoped in the car, along with Jess. I turn to them and signal I'd be a few minutes and notice Nates mood has once again changed and his eyes once again burn with anger.

"I'm good thanks!" I tell Seth. His eyes still as beautiful as when I first saw them look down at me.

"I won't hold you up, it looks like you're busy, but I just wanted to ask if I could get your number?" he asks shyly.

"Oh yeah of course! It's 0436052998" I recite to him.

"Thank you so much! I guess I'll see you tomorrow?" he asks hopefully

"Um yeah I guess you will," I reply with a genuine smile.

"Looking forward to it, cya tomorrow Lily!" he shouts as he walks off to his car.

What just happened? I ask myself.
