Chapter 35
Allie
It's been four days since the séance in the library. Everyone had put it in the backs of their minds and focused on more important news. Baby news!
"So why didn't you tell us?" I ask Liv and Amy as I sat between them, rubbing both their bellies.
Neither was really showing yet but I had planned to have great relationships with all my nieces and nephews.
"Well, I found out not long after you left and then too much was happening," Amy explained, "I mean, you were gone, Bee was screaming the house down, the wolves were anxious. There was just no time."
"What about when I came back. Whatever happened to Best friends tell each other everythin'?" I asked, a little offended.
"you had things to deal with. I mean, if it wasn't making sure that everyone didn't kill Nick, you were dealing with your own mental problems."
"Mental problems? What mental problems? I have no mental problems? I'm fine," I reassured them, not believing myself.
"Allie, you were tortured. Of course you would have some mental problems."
I narrowed my eyes at her, eager to change the subject.
"What about you?" I demanded from Liv.
She opened her mouth to explain when Callum buttered in, "It was my idea."
"So, you should be the one I skin alive for keepin' my new nephew a secret," I said, matter-of-factly.
"Not a secret," he corrected, coming around from behind the lounge to take a seat in the arm chair, "It's just, once word got out that the new Alpha King Heir is on the way, Liv would become a target. And you know I couldn't have that."
"We would protect her," Tarna said, trying to rock Bee back to sleep in her arms by the fire.
"Because we all protected Allie great from Macangus," Malcolm smartly commented before looking guilty at Nick who sat on the other lounge, "No offence Nick."
"None taken," Nick sighed, sitting back and taking it like a man.
I smiled at him which he accepted with a warm one of his own.
"The main question we should be asking is...what are you having?" Bleu asked, leaning forward eagerly between Nick and Graham.
"Do you know?" Liv asked her excited sister.
Amy bit her lip, nodding.
"Really? What are you havin'?" I jumped, taking her hands in mine.
"A boy!"
"Me too!"
We found ourselves in one big family group hug, cheering and tearing up. Two new babies in the house, there was plenty to celebrate.
"I'm so happy for you," I told them as we all broke apart, going into our mate pares.
"We're happy too," Liv said, wrapping her arms around Callum as he kissed her head.
Amy's and Archie's happiness was displayed in their overwhelming kiss.
"Hey, hey, hey," Tarna yelled, slapping them apart, "We have a baby over here."
"Aye, if we have to put her through therapy for seein' you two kiss all the time, I'm chargin' you," Malcolm promised.
"Let's face it, she's goin' to be in therapy anyway. She belongs to this crazy family," Amy giggled.
"Hey," Graham cried, offended before his face changed, "the word is dysfunctional,"
"Yes of course," Liv promoted, raising her fist in agreeance, before she got a glare from Callum, "but the best dysfunctional family."
I scoffed, "Suck up. We should put us on the logo, for dysfunctional family. And we haven't even gotten to the whole werewolf –."
"Witch," Bleu buttered in.
"And human," Amy added.
"Family part," I finally finished, with a big smile to sell my point.
"Here, here!" Archie cheered.
"Here, here!" the rest of us followed, falling into giggles.
I felt a real smile spread across my lips, my mind going back to a time when it was only the five of us – or should I say, four of us because technically Malcolm wasn't around. The loss of our parents were still fresh and the holes in our relationships were larger than ever. The world was a different place. There was no love, there was no hope. There wasn't anything worth living for.
Looking around the room, that's all I could see. Callum's and Liv's marriage and their first born, Archie's and Amy's growing baby, Malcolm's and Tarna's little family, the mended relationship between myself and my twin brother and the love he shares with Bleu. And finally, Nick. Our future, our love, our home. Everything was worth fighting for.
Bang!
A yelp escaped my lips without control making me jump in fright. The circle we had made broke revealing a bloody Donald on the floor, barely breathing.
"Donald!" Callum shouted as he and Archie dropped to the floor.
Rolling him over, the full damage was revealed. His torso was sliced to bits and his face was a bloody mess.
"Donald, wake up," Callum ordered shaking his shoulders as Archie applied pressured to his wounds.
"Amy, come here," Archie asked, Amy immediately doing as she was told, running to the other side of Donald and doing exactly was Archie was.
"Ahh, Callum," Malcolm called from his place by the window.
Callum ignored him, continuing to get Donald to speak, "Donald, who did this?"
"Callum, you're gonna want to see this," Malcolm called out again.
Tarna got the picture and so did Nick, running over to the window. I was still stunned, seeing an old family friend on the ground bleeding to death.
"Donald -."
"Callum!"
"What?" Callum finally snapped, bringing us all out of our trance long enough to look at Malcolm and his serious expression.
"We're bein' attacked."
