Chapter 3
Nicholas
I stood at the far end of the boundary, trying to avoid my brother at all cost. I knew his plan for Allie Patterson and I knew exactly how I would be involved.
It was a form of a training exercise. At least that's what he called it. It was his way of involving me in the running of the pack and making sure that I had a place. There wasn't a place for me to be Beta though I'm not sure if that job was any better than the one I was bound to be given.
I was going to be given Allie. My job was to break her soul like I saw my father do to so many others in his time. It didn't matter how. Beat her, rape her if I pleased, any other way that made me want to vomit.
I didn't know how Hector did it. I saw him once, rip a five year-old apart just because the mother had chosen to spare a rogue. I would never forget that day.
The little lass screamed for her mother as the lads held her back. She didn't have a chance against my brother's large brown wolf. She was torn in minutes and the mother had never gotten over it. I hadn't seen her in months. She had moved to one of the far away tents, hiding in shame of that day.
Standing from where I leaned on a tree, I shook the thought away.
He wasn't always like that, I forced myself to think over and over again. But it was true. Something so dark and damaged was never born like that. It was made.
He had just been a lad that listened too hard to his father's instructions, who lost his mother too young and never go to be with the one that he loved. Some would argue that it was his fault and I probably would too if I had all the facts. But I didn't.
Did I believe that my brother was still there? I didn't know. All I could do was hope.
As I walked closer to the campsite, the wind blew softly. My whole body froze when a scent that smelt so pure and lovely was brought to my nose.
I looked around, trying to spy the plant or animal that held it. I found nothing. Just a few trees along the dirt ground.
But the scent didn't go away. My feet started to move without my knowing, following the scent. My eyes started to burn though I barely noticed, too determined to capture whatever held the sweet smell. Claws replaced my nails and fangs grew in my mouth, turning me more animal than human.
"I want that scent," I growled to myself, my pace increasing as I recognised this side of the territory though not sure why something so lovely would be found in what I could only describe as a rogue's hell.
But I gave into my instincts and allowed to be taken to where I wanted to go.
The familiar image of chains wrapped around the solid dead trees, reminding me of the rogues that had been tortured or even died here. Each tree stood tall, a memorial of every dead soldier, fighting some type of war.
My body froze when I spied chains in use, my wolf brain not being able to connect the dots that my other brain might have done.
The scent flowed from the curled ball of a blonde Lass, shaking from fear, anger and the same spell that I had been casted under. Only a blanket had been used to cover her body from my eyes making my wolf furious as it grew inside of me, wanting to take over and mark her.
When she looked up, wearing the same yellow golden eyes as the Royal Family, I started to connect the dots. I realized that there was only one person that was supposed to be chained up. Allie Patterson.
As I thought that simple name, she began to fight against her chains, her fear and anger only growing.
I couldn't move. Paralysed by what that meant. I had found my mate. The Lass I was supposed to torture was my mate.
The rattling of the chains, caught my attention making me take a step towards her. It only caused her to fight hard and make growls escape her pale pink lips.
I frowned realizing that she wasn't fighting them to get closer to me. She was fighting to get away.
My wolf stirred inside of me, wanting to take over. It wanted to mark her, regardless of what she wanted. It wanted to rip the blanket from her clutched hands and see her body for my own eyes and hear her scream my name. My vision blurred, trying to fight my wolf and stay in control.
The growing battle inside of me was becoming to hard to take. It caused me to sweat, see dots and shake.
Soon it became all too much and I shifted, running as far away from her as I could.
