Hello everyone! I hope you've all been having a splended... few weeks since I've last updated. And if u haven't, well that really sucks! But never fear, I'm now here, updating!
I didn't have any ideas to do for my next part to this book, so that's why I haven't updated in so long. But now I do have an idea, so I'm updating.
This part is called "The cliches of L fanfictions." And today, I'll be talking about all the cliches I've read in L fanfictions, and if your planning on writing an L fanfiction, hopefully this will help u so that u don't make it so cliche!
Before we begin, I just want to do a quick book shoutout. My 2 friends and I have made ourselves an account called Bad_Touch_Trio_69 and we are currently writing a Creepypasta/Hetalia/Black Butler fanfiction called "Fandom High." And if you like any of those fandoms, I highly encourage you to read it! :D
Another thing, feel free to express your opinions on this part in the comments, and if you liked it, plz vote. :)
Now, let's get started on the cliches of L fanfictions, shall we?
_______________________________________________________________________________
Your main character and L were in Wammy's house together
Yes, a lot of L fanfictions that I've read involved the main character and L having history at Wammy's house and then him leaving suddenly, or they fell in love at Wammy's house and then he leaves. Either way, it's the same deal. He always leaves. How depressing is that?
Your main character and L meet up again UNEXPECTEDLY a few years later
Alright, I admit that I used this as well. But seriously, almost every freaking L fanfiction they are seperated either from Wammy's house, or somewhere else they had met eachother before. And then they are reunited again some year's later. Seriously, it's always the same thing.
Your main character works on the investigation team and or police department
Again, I also used this one. But this is so not unheard of. In fact, I can't even count how many times I've read this. 10? 20? Anyways, your main character randomly decided to work on Kira investigation team, and then that's how her and L meet. Miraculous, right? No.
Your main character has something to do with Kira
Now, this isn't used as much as the other examples I put, but it's used just enough for me to rant about it. Your main character either is friends with Light and learns about his death note, or you yourself have a death note. Either way, your going to magically meet L because your under suspision. And then he ends up falling for you. I'm going to say it, I'm sorry if it offends anyone. But really, how exactly does that work? L is way smarter than that. Sure, I can see him in that kind of weak state, but I really think he's smart enough not to reveal too much of himself in front of someone that could possibly be (or is probably) Kira. Yes, I realize I'm ranting about this way too much. Let's just go on to the next one.
The love triangle
Ah yes, the dreaded love triangle. I haven't read too much of these, but I'm fully aware that it is quite overused. There could be a bunch of love triangles going on, I'm not really pinpointing. For example, your main character could be faught over by L and Matsuda, or L and Mello, or L and Near or L and another OC you made up. But the most heard of love triangle in an L fanfiction has to be L and Light. It's the one I've read about sooo many times. L and Light are both fighting over you, and, oh no, you don't know who to choose! I'm sorry, but I think we all know that the choice is clear. It's L. Case closed.
Your main character is so smart that they rival L
Ok, I didn't exactly use this. My main character is smart enough to be an investigator, and can think ahead, but I can fully and truthfully inform you that she is no way smarter than L. As for other fanfictions, I've read this so many times. The main character is just so smart that now her and L are equals. Now she can't be the dumb character of the story that L gets annoyed with. I hope nobody cries when I say this, and I'm sorry, but it's a fact that L actually goes for girls that aren't as smart as he is. *cough* Misa. *cough* Whether it's because he likes to be constantly reminded that he's smarter than everyone else, or just because that's his "type," I don't know. But your character doesn't have to be as smart as L, just so you can impress us readers by how fast your character solves cases and all that crap. It's not because the writer is smarter than all of us (my apoligies of that is actually the case) it's because they've already watched Death Note and they know what's happening already. Either that, or they made up a fake case. Don't get me wrong, I actually really like reading about characters tackling cases alongside L, just as long as it's made up and I haven't actually heard of it already, nor do I know what's going to happen ahead of time.
L is somehow connected to the Wammy Boys
Your main character and a group of her friends meet 4 boys, which happens to be L, Mello, Matt and Near. I'm not saying that fanfictions need to be narrowed down to be realistic, I'm just saying that this is totally overused. And it's totally unrealistic. Why, you ask? Well, I'll tell you. L was never around when Matt, Mello and Near attended Wammy's. Them and L never went to Wammy's together, and they aren't the same age. L does not hang out with them on a regular bases, no. He's too busy solving cases while they work hard to be the ones to success him. It was only after L had become the world's greatest detective that they made one special orphanage for certain children to be educated to success L if he were to pass away. This makes me sound so judgemental, and as I said, I'm not saying fanfictions can't be realistic. You can have floating unicorns that happen to be yoga teachers and fish that have man eating fleas in your fanfictions for all I care, I'm just simply telling you that this is overused and not to mention the anime-wise unrealistic.
And finally, L doesn't die
This is indeed overused. I don't disagree with it, because if you did kill L in your fanfiction that I was reading, I would really be sad and end up crying my head off, but it is used in almost every L fanfiction. Of coarse the author doesn't want L to die in the end, I don't either, and neither does the reader. So he either comes back to life someway after death, or he never dies at all. Sure, it's your fanfiction. You can prevent him from dying if you so wish to, just maybe do it in a more creative way? But no matter how many non dying L fanfictions you write, or how much you try to forget and move on with your daily life, you can't escape the truth. L died. It was his fate. I don't care if you let him live in your story, that's absoulutely fine, and has me jumping for joy in the comfort of my bedroom, but it's just so overused. Let's just start being creative people.
