They stayed in Demeuillieu for two straight days. It was strange that they had not seen a trace of The Honorable Baron but had heard about his nightly tirades the next morning.
"The Baron is here!" Nyla replied like an excited child. If she got paid for catching him alive it would be the highlight of her life. "We can catch him in the act!" She smiled to Jon while he played with some fishing line.
"You mean that I'll catch him and you'll be sound asleep. It's too dangerous foryou to approach a criminal." He reasoned as he was preparing what she assumed was a trap for the Baron to fall under.
"Oh please, I live and breathe in the same air as criminals." Nyla challenged him as he worked. "Let me help you tonight!"
He shook his head, surprisingly serious for once. "No, the State officials will be in the area as well--it wouldn't be the first time someone shot or killed a minority child because they were in the wrong place at the wrong time."
Nyla narrowed her eyes. "You can't be seri--"
"Nyla--not tonight. Please. Leave this to the State Officials." There was no room for arguments. "I'll catch the guy then we'll both get paid. Wouldn't you be glad to pay off your guild quote?"
Nylafrowned--she wanted to pay it off so she didn't have to be indebted to them.Sighing, she shook her head. She knew it when it was her loss. "Fine, butI want to hear all about it when you get back."
