(Dontavion POV)
This girl here is something else. I mean we was in here chatting away, but she went to the restroom. She came back with the man who I thought was dead.
Mr.Watts...He looked way older than before. Well I mean it has been almost 9 years.
He just looked at me and smiled I felt kind of good that he was smiling at me right now. Just because of the last time we spoke...it wasn't too hot.
*Flashback*
"Umm. Mr.Watts I think I wanna quit." I said scared of his reaction.
"Why boy?" He said.
"I found another job...that can help me and my mom better." I said being honest.
"Ok...What is the job, because I know there's not too many people around here who will pay a 10 year old as much as I pay you. So...what is the job, son?" He asked looking me in my eye.
I shook my head and looked down.
"I...I joined a gang." I said slowly.
"You what?" He screamed.
"I joined a gang."
"Yeah I heard you...I'm just trying to process all of this." He said.
I nodded.
"Son, you really don't need to be in a gang. I mean I done been down them roads before. I done did all that and I don't want you to go do what I done did." He said shaking his head.
"I know, but it's just quick and easy money."
"Quick and easy money...You say?"
"Yes sir?" I said. That's the only man I ever respected like that.
"Well is it still gonna be quick and easy when you gotta go steal something or kill someone and go to jail for it?" He said serious.
"I don't know!" I said getting mad.
"I'm just tryna protect you. I mean you are 10 years old..." He said shaking his head.
"And I'm tryna protect my momma and my brother." I said raising my voice at him. He had made me so mad at him, but when I seen him look down and shake his head, I knew I was sorry for saying what I said.
He nodded.
"I'm sorry Mr.Watts." I said.
"No...It's fine...Go ahead, watch what I tell you." He said and walked away.
But I mean he should've understood where I was coming from. Because he used to be in a gang and he needed the money it gave, just like I do...So I don't even understand why he trippin.
*Flashback Ended*
"You were supposed to be going to the restroom." I said looking at Kira.
"Well I did, but I seen him in the back and decided to get him to come and speak to you." She said smiling hard.
I just nodded and so did he.
"Umm. Both of y'all got things to say to each other I would say so, lemme get out of here. I'll be outside." Kira said and walked off.
We just sat there in silence for a while and looked at each other.
"I see I gotta be the one to talk first, huh?" He said making a low laugh come out.
"I reckon."
"Well look son I'm sorry bout what happened back then."
I nodded.
