I tried to take my mind off of the future by looking out the tinted windows during the ride. The bright lights of the houses of the richer flashed past as the hover car sped down the abandoned streets. Everyone else in the car seemed oddly calm. The suit wearing man was focused on his Glaice the whole ride, his face in a constant show of amusement. The guards and driver had blank looks that did not waver no matter what. A drunken old man had stumbled in front of the speeding hover car and the driver had just calmy jerked the steering wheel to the side to barely miss the man. I had been thrown into the guard on my left during that event and he didn't react at all, not even to push me off and back into my seat.

The guards did finally move once the hover car glided to a stop in front of a gate that I had never seen before in my life. The guard in the front seat opened his door and exited, closing the door behind him. A light in a guard station to our left flickered on when the guard entered, and the gate soon swung inward, allowing us to enter. My hands started to shake and I clenched them between my knees as I hunched over my legs.

"Calm down.", the suit wearing man chuckled to my right. "No harm will come to you. After all, you have done nothing wrong. Right?" He smiled, but that grin looked way to sadistic for my liking. I felt my arms get covered in goosebumps but I didn't rub my arms as that would make me look like I had something to hide, which I didn't. Did I?

Blank faces of guards floated past us as our driver controlled the hover car toward a courtyard that led to a door at the ground floor of the government's building. I guess the gate we went through was for government personnel only. But why would they need a separate gate that was so highly guarded?

The driver stopped the hover car against the curb of the courtyard, the electric engine slowing down until there was no sound but complete silence. The door to my left, the one next to the curb, opened and the suit man walked out, his eyes never leaving his Glaice and his fingers incessantly tapping the screen. The guard to my left pushed against my shoulder but I exited before he could do anything more. The driver closed the door behind us and got back into the driver's seat to speed the hover car away and probably back into a parking garage somewhere near the main government building.

The walkway that I was led down had grass running against both of its sides. Even in the dim light coming through the tinted windows the blades were a bright green and perfectly cut. So perfect I thought it was fake grass until I saw the hidden tops of the sprinklers. No need to water fake grass.

The walkway came to an abrupt stop at closed double doors, their steel faces seeming to promise me trouble once I walk through them. They swung open as soon as the guard's hands came into contact with the black rubber covered handles. I looked down the dark corridor that followed the doors, the light only directly after the doors turning on, the rest staying dark.

The suit wearing man walked down into the dark, but his path was soon illuminated, the lights turning on as soon as he stepped under them. I followed after him because I was in unknown territory and he was the only one that would tell me anything. Even if what he did tell me was the bare minimum and completely useless.
