Remember, this story is set after The Red Pyramid and after The Lost Hero.
*This is going back a week, a day after Jezelle called Lauren.
I do not own PJO or the Kane Chronicles in any way. Only my own characters.

Lauren's POV
How's your life? Good? That's great. Well mine sucked. My sister had been missing for an entire week and when I contacted the college, they said they hadn't had a student named Bethany Parker since 1983. I called the police when I didn't see for two days, and they agreed to search for her but when I called for an update they didn't have a record of me calling and reporting a missing person. Which I did twice actually because Zellie was missing too. Neither she nor Darian showed at school the next day, or the next and when I called Zellie's dad, he said she had to go away but he wouldn't tell me where or how to contact her. And the police called her dad, and he said that she wasn't missing, and they kept forgetting about Beth so I was completely alone.
My grades dropped and I seemed to be causing fires everywhere I went which was really freaking me out. After causing a toilet to catch on fire somehow, I was expelled. The only thing I could look forward to was the recording of the two kids, Carter and Sadie, which really calmed me down. Of course that disappeared after four days and three days later, the manager of the apartment said that unless someone paid for the apartment, we'd have to move out. I tried to tell him my sister was missing and I couldn't get a job but he seemed deaf. Later that day I got a call from Zellie. She reassured me she was fine, she hadn't been kidnapped, she had to go and stay with some distant relatives, she was sorry she hadn't called sooner, and she wasn't sure when she could see me again. I didn't tell her about Beth or getting expelled or getting kicked out of the apartment. I was too relieved that she was okay.
But at six o' clock that night I was on the streets with a backpack full of as much stuff as I could carry. I hated to leave so many things behind but what else could I do? No adults seemed to care or want to help. I walked for a good twenty minutes until my toes, fingers and nose were frozen, before deciding where I should go. It was a long shot, probably didn't even existed, but I didn't have anything to lose. So I set off towards Brooklyn house.
I no clue where I was going and walked where ever my feet took me, hoping I wouldn't get mugged along the way. When I finally stopped walking I was looking at an abandoned warehouse. For a moment I swear I saw a mansion on top of it but quickly dismissed the idea, before realizing that's what happened the in recording. I took another look and sure enough, there was a five story mansion perched impossibly above the warehouse.
"Oh god. It's real. It's really real! I'm not crazy! Or maybe I am . . ." I was so busy talking to myself (Alright, yes I'm crazy. That settles it. But let's be honest here. Who hasn't talked to themselves before? Yeah, now who's crazy?) I didn't hear the crunching of the footsteps coming towards me. I quickly turned in the direction when I finally noticed them. It was two kids, probably my age. Great, they were probably going to beat me up and take everything I had with me. Which is everything I had at all. They came closer and I realized it was a boy and a girl. The girl had blonde hair and the boy had coffee-colored skin. "Who are you?" I asked. I thought it was possible they could be Carter and Sadie but I still wasn't sure if it was all real or not. (So what if it took me a while to see what was right in front of my face? I had been through a lot in the past couple of years.)
"I think we should be asking you that question." the boy said.
"I'm Lauren." I answered. I probably shouldn't have. I probably should have just run the heck out of there. "And you are?"
"I'm Jaz and this is Walt. What are you doing out here all alone?" she seemed to be expecting a certain answer.
"I think I should be asking you that question." I repeated the statement the boy, Walt, had said earlier. She smiled.
"We live here." she said.
"In an abandoned warehouse?" I tested.
"I think we both know it's a little more than that." she still had that smile on her face.
"So did you find the recording too?" Walt asked. I nodded and he smiled. God, why was everyone so happy? It was freezing cold out! They seemed to read my thoughts.
"Well then, why don't you come inside? I'm sure Carter and Sadie would love to meet you."
