Chapter Nineteen: Heart to Heart

AUTHOR'S POV

Larry stands by Laurent's bedside looking down at at his sweet, angelic love. He can't believe he's seeing Laurent's eyes open and looking up at him but he's eternally full of gratitude. The doctor described the severity of his wounds and explained that it could still be several days before Laurent came out of this but the doctor didn't know Laurent's strength...and it's a strength to be reckoned with. Just as mama said, he's a fighter and as Larry looks down at his beautiful and brave soldier...his brown eyes connected with his he falls even more in love with him. Now with his hand smoothly rubbing the top of Laurent's hair... 

Larry: "Laurent? Hi baby", he whispers sweetly. 

Laurent's eyes flutter as he looks up at Larry. He then slowly brings his hand up in an attempt to remove the mask from his face but Larry quickly but softly stops him...

Larry: "Oh no baby. Don't take that off. I'll get you doctor". 

He bends down to gently kiss his forehead then goes to the nurses station...

Larry: *smile* "He's awake. Laurent is awake". 

Nurse: *smile* "That's wonderful. His doctor will be right in". 

Larry: "Thank you". 

Before she can reply Larry hurriedly goes back to Laurent's side. He notices Laurent looking around the room as if he's wondering where he is and how he got there...but when he sees Larry next to him again the environment is the last thing on his mind as Larry looks just as beautiful to him as Laurent looks to Larry. Larry reaches down to lightly hold Laurent's hand as they bask in the sight of each other. Then his doctor comes in so Larry has to temporarily let go and step back so Laurent can be examined. As he checks Laurent's vitals mama comes back with their coffee and when she sees the doctor hovered over him she assumes he's merely doing his standard checkup but Larry quickly leans over and whispers to her... 

Larry: "He's awake mama". 

Now wide eyed mama looks at Larry who hasn't stopped smiling...as he shouldn't. Tears brim her eyes before slowly falling onto the white tile beneath her. Then she whispers...

Mama: "I knew he would come back to us soon".  

Larry: *smile* "Me too mama", he whispers back. 

She places the coffee cups on the closest table and waits for the doctor to finish. When he does he comes over with a warm smile to give them the news...

Doctor: "Everything looks good. His wounds are healing at a great pace. Much quicker than we thought considering how deep they are. My staff and I will keep a close eye on them and if he continues to heal at this rate he will be released and coming home very soon. Now I did give him some more pain medicine so don't be surprised if he goes to sleep rather quickly but overall his prognosis is looking very good". 

Mama: "Thank you so much doctor".

Doctor: *smile* "It's my pleasure. You can go and be with him now". 

Mama doesn't waste another second. She walks over to Laurent and when her eyes meet his more tears fall as she smiles through them. She's so happy to see him looking at her that for several minutes she's rendered speechless...but she eventually speaks in her sweet voice...

Mama: "I'm so happy to see you my love. Your doctor said you're recovering really good so we can bring you home soon". 

Laurent's glowing eyes stay upon mama as seeing her in her timeless beauty is such an incredible feeling. Larry slowly comes over to stand beside them and when Laurent's eyes shift to look at him the look on his face becomes soft and dreamy as his eyes continue to glow. He may not have been able to say anything verbally but he doesn't have to because the look itself is saying enough. It's saying everything that several weeks a part warranted...that he misses him, he needs him and he loves him. Now the medicine the doctor gave him is starting to kick in so just as his eyes had slowly fluttered open they begin to do the same as he closed them once again to rest. Larry and mama want to stay close to him so Larry brings two chairs over. They sit down, lock hands with each other and watch Laurent sleep...forever grateful for this moment...
